- On the day of inspection, while there was one staff member present who had a First Aid Response (FAR) certification. The date on the certificate indicated the certificate had expired and therefore no longer valid, posing a safety risk to the children in the event of an emergency

- Staff have completed First Aid Response (FAR) training course. All staff will be supported to maintain up-to-date FAR certification in line with regulatory requirements, ensuring the service continues to have appropriate first aid cover available for children in the event of an emergency

- There was no adult with training in First Aid Response (FAR)on site when the inspectors arrived. It was acknowledged that the person in charge does hold a FAR certificate, however, the rosters demonstrated that there are days when there is no FAR trained adult available to the children. A further two staff members had training in paediatric first aid, but it was not ensured that one of these adults was always on the premises. This non-compliance was also found at last inspection of the service in April 2024. An IAN was issued for safety which was promptly responded to by the person in charge. The response stated that the deputy had been enrolled on a FAR course, and rosters had been amended to ensure that a person who was trained in first aid was always available to the children

- The registered provider has enrolled another staff member on a FAR course and has ensured that at least one adult with FAR is rostered to be available to children at all times

- Corrective Action The service manager submitted an updated staff roster on the day of inspection to the inspectorate. It clearly outlined that a trained member of staff was present in the service at all times while the service was in operation. Preventive Action The staff roster will always reflect First Aid Responder certified staff on the premises at all times

- The written reply from the registered provider stated that six extra-large wound dressings, three large wound dressings and six eye pads have been purchased and placed in the first aid box. As a preventive measure, the dates on the first aid supplies will be checked every three months, instead of every six months. A checklist has been placed on the outside of the first aid box, which will ensure that any item about to expire will be flagged at each check

- The following statements were made by the manager; (1) First Aid Responder (FAR) training has been completed. An adult trained in FAR training is available to the children at all times. The new staff file checklist will ensure that the dates of all training are recorded to ensure that the qualification does expire prior to new training being completed. (2) All first aid equipment has been replaced. Staff will check regularly to ensure that there are sufficient quantities of equipment available at all times. A new checklist has been added to the box

A checklist had been included in the first aid box and going forward the registered provider would ensure that the contents of the first aid box are checked monthly

- On examination of the contents of the first aid box it was found that some of the dressing’s dates had expired
Provider's corrective action:
- & Supporting Documentation Submitted The registered provider stated that the dressings which were out of date have been replaced. Also, a staff member has been designated to oversee the checking of the first aid box on a 2 monthly basis to ensure that it is adequately stocked, and medical supplies are in date. Summary Comment Documents in the form of templates and checklists were forwarded to the early years office to evidence that the Requirement has been suitably addressed

- (1) None of the 3 adults had up to date first aid response (FAR) training. Therefore, the service did not meet the requirement of always having an adult with up to date FAR training on the premises. Action submitted by the Registered Provider
Provider's corrective action:
- (1) The registered provider is enrolled for FAR training during October 2023

Early years service TU2015CC025, Fermoy · Regulation 25 — First aid
- 1) The adult with First Aid Responder Training was not available at all times and left the service between 11.25 am and 12.20 pm. In conversation with the registered provider, it was stated that the second adult intends to complete FAR training in the near future. (2) The saline vials in the first aid box were out of date, the date of expiry was recorded as 2021-05. No burn gel was available in either the box or the kit
Provider's corrective action:
- (1) The adult has booked First Aid Responder (FAR) training to ensure that there is a person trained as a First Aid Responder (FAR) available at all times. (2) Saline and burn gel were purchased and put into first aid box
