Timahoe Tots LTD, Timahoe · Regulation 25 — First aid
- 1. No adult was available to provide FAR cover between the hours of 13:30 and 17:00 on 03 June 2026. It is acknowledged that the designated person in charge took an immediate corrective action for the FAR qualified staff member to remain on duty until the close of the service at 17:00 and to cover additional hours for the remainder of the week. 2. No person was available to provide FAR cover when this staff member would need to take their mandatory breaks on Thursday, June 4th and Friday June 5th
- 1. The required four medium sized, eight large sized and four extra-large sized wound dressings were not in place in the first aid box as per the Quality Regulatory Framework. 2. A checklist as outlined in the Quality Regulatory Framework was not available to ensure sufficient quantities of in date supplies were available in the first aid box. 3. The closure catch on the first aid box was broken and required replacing
Provider's corrective action:
- 1. The registered provider stated in the response that there will always be a minimum of two FAR trained staff on the premises between the hours of 08:00 and 17:00. The service now has five staff trained in FAR. (Certificates included) 2. The registered provider stated in the response that two extra members were trained in June 2026. The staff roster will include F AR staff for the week ahead and this will make sure we will always have a FAR trained staff member on site during opening hours and lunchtimes. The person in charge will check daily that this is adhered to. (Roster included)

The first aid box will be checked by the person in charge weekly and replenished if needed, and the checklist will be used. (Checklist included) 3. A new first aid box has been purchased. If a clasp is broken a new first aid box will be purchased. The first aid box will be checked weekly by the person in charge. (Photograph included) Summary Comment In respect of the corrective actions taken documentary and photographic evidence was submitted to the office of the Early Years Inspectorate, reviewed by the Early Years Inspector and deemed to meet the regulatory requirement

The Maples Creche, Portlaoise · Regulation 25 — First aid
- A review of the staff roster indicated that a First Aid Response (FAR) qualified staff member was not present in the service between 5:30pm-6:30pm on Monday 09 March. This posed a potential risk to children in the event of a medical emergency occurring. A staff member trained in FAR must be present in the service during the operational hours of the service
Provider's corrective action:
- The registered provider and five staff members have undertaken FAR training to ensure the service is fully covered during the operational hours. The manager will ensure there is documentation in relation to expiration dates for First aid certification

- An adult qualified in First Aid response (FAR) was not rostered to be available on the premises between 08:00 - 08:30 on 25 February 2026
Provider's corrective action:
- The person in charge stated in the response that on site FAR training has been arranged for 10 staff. This will provide the service with FAR cover in all eventualities. (Additional FAR certificate and group training confirmation included). Summary Comment In respect of the corrective actions taken documentary evidence was submitted to the office of the Early Years Inspectorate, reviewed by the Early Years Inspector and deemed to meet the regulatory requirement

- A review of the staff roster indicated that a First Aid Response (FAR) qualified staff member was not present in the service between 4-6pm on Tuesday 24 February and Wednesday 25 February, and between 2 - 6pm on Friday 27 February. This posed a potential risk to children in the event of a medical emergency
Provider's corrective action:
- The roster was adjusted to have minimum of one FAR qualified staff on the premises at all times. An extra staff member is scheduled to attend FAR training on 23 March – 25 March

- There was no staff member qualified in First Aid response (FAR) and available in the preschool during the hours of operation. This presented a risk in the event of a medical emergency and staff were not trained in how to respond appropriately
Provider's corrective action:
- First aid training has been booked for 08 April 2026. All required training for staff will be monitored and re- training will be booked as soon as necessary

- A review of the staff roster indicated that a First Aid Response (FAR) qualified staff member was not present in the service between 07.30am and 09:00am each day. This posed a potential risk to children in the event of a medical emergency requiring first aid occurring
Provider's corrective action:
- Additional staff have been scheduled to attend FAR training to ensure there is always a FAR trained employee on the premises during the hours of operation. Training has also been scheduled for the management team on ensuring FAR trained employees exiting the company have a replacement trained as quickly as possible

- The first aid boxes were not stocked in line with TUSLA requirements as outlined in the Quality Regulatory Framework document. 1. The first aid boxes did not contain the following required items: • Individually wrapped sterile unmedicated wound dressings of assorted sizes • Sterile eye pads • Water based burns dressings • Crepe bandages • Paramedic shears
Provider's corrective action:
- The registered provider stated in the response that: Both first aid boxes have been refilled and the checking of the contents of the first aid boxes has been added to the safety checklist. (Receipt included). - The first aid boxes were not stocked in line with the Tusla, Quality Regulatory Framework (QRF) as there were no burns dressing available in the first aid boxes
Provider's corrective action:
- The burn dressing has been located in the first aid box in the office. Monthly checklist of contents has been created to keep first aid box complaint with Tusla regulations

- The first aid boxes were not stocked in line with TUSLA requirements as outlined in the Quality Regulatory Framework document. Checklists were not in place. The following was noted in the first aid box in the red room. • The burns dressing had an expiry date of December 2014. • The normal saline had an expiry date of August 2020. • The bandages had an expiry date of September 2013. • There were no paramedic shears in the first aid box
Provider's corrective action:
- Two new first aid boxes were purchased for the Blue room and Red room. The registered provider will check all first aid boxes monthly

- The staff roster indicated that there no was adult with FAR training working in the service from 17:00 to 18:30 Monday to Friday. It is acknowledged that the person in charge took a corrective action and submitted a staff roster via email to the inspectorate with FAR cover from 07:30 to 18:30 hours on the 3 December 2024
Provider's corrective action:
- All staff’s qualifications were checked and the weekly roster was fixed to ensure that FAR certified people are on the premises during opening hours. (FAR certificate and rosters included). The service will train more staff members in FAR to ensure that there are always FAR trained people available.
