Kids Korner, Newbawn · Regulation 25 — First aid
- There was only one staff member trained in a first aid responder course working in the service. This was not sufficent to cover the roster in the service if this staff member was off duty
Provider's corrective action:
- The service has reviewed their first Aid policy to ensure there is always a member of staff on the premises who is trained in a first aid responder course. A further three staff members have been booked to attend a first aid responder course to comply with this requirement

- There were no staff trained in a first aid responder (FAR) course immediately available to the children attending the preschool service. There was evidence on file that two staff held in date Paediatric first aid, however they were not available to the children at all times
Provider's corrective action:
- The service submitted the following response to address the non-compliances: Corrective and Preventive Action Staff members have been booked into a FAR training course, to be completed in March 2026. All preschool staff with valid first aid certificates are on display on the wall

- A person certified in a recognised PHECC First Aid Response (FAR) was not available on the premises on the day of inspection. It is acknowledged that several staff members were trained in basic first aid and available to children
Provider's corrective action:
- The service manager and one staff member have applied for PHECC FAR refresher training. In the interim, staff deployment has been reviewed to ensure that suitably trained staff are available to respond to any first aid needs. A designated list of staff holding valid or in-progress PHECC FAR certification is maintained by management. Once refresher training is completed, rosters will ensure that a PHECC FAR-certified staff member is present on site at all times during opening hours. A training matrix is used to track certification and expiry dates, with refresher courses booked in advance to ensure continuous compliance

- The registered provider submitted the following response: Corrective and Preventive Action A staff member was enrolled in FAR Training and has commenced the FAR training. Written reminders are now in the preschool diary and phone for renewal of the FAR training. The designated person was also informed and aware of the expiry date

- While it is acknowledged that the staff employed by the service have current paediatric first aid training, there was no record of any person having current First Aid Responder (FAR) training. The registered provider provided evidence on the day of inspection that one person will complete this training in January. Due to the number of children who attend the service and to ensure that first aid is available for children at all times, additional staff are required to ensure a staff member with FAR is available at all times to the children

- The registered provider submitted the following response to address the non-compliances: Corrective and Preventive Action FAR training will be provided for three staff in our facility as a matter of urgency. Should any FAR trained staff leave another member will be trained

- There was no evidence that there was a staff member trained in a first aid responder course employed in the service on the day of inspection. An immediate action notice was issued to the registered provider on the day of inspection. It is acknowledged that the inspector received a response on the 4 November 2024 outlining the steps the registered provider proposed to take to address the non-compliance found. The manager has submitted evidence that three staff employed in the service have been booked to do a first aid responder course during the months of December and November 2024 It is acknowledged that the registered provider submitted evidence of first aid training for two staff in response to the immediate action notice. However, the training undertaken does not meet the required standard of First Aid Responder (FAR) training

- The person trained in a first aid responder course arrived at the service at 11.00 am on the first day of the inspection. On review of documentation in the service and staff roster records, there was no one in the service trained in a first aid responder course available to the children before the arrival of this staff member who was on the roster from 11.00 am each day. Preschool services are required to have a person trained in a first aid responder course available to the children attending the service at all times. It is acknowledged there was another staff member trained in paediatric first aid available to the children on the day of inspection

- A second staff member is now trained in a first aid responder course. The registered provider will ensure there is a staff member always trained in a first aid responder course available to the children in the service
