(2)(a) and (b) Although there were 2 first aid boxes were available in the service neither contained eye pads

Provider's corrective action:

Eye pads have now been purchased for each first aid box. All first aid boxes will now have a contents list and if anything is used it must be replaced regularly. Summary Comment The registered provider’s response is accepted. The non-compliance has been addressed

(1) The registered provider had not ensured that a person trained in a First Aid Responder (FAR) course was available at all times when the children were in attendance. There were two staff members with current FAR certification. However, on the day of inspection neither of these staff members were on site between 8.00 and 9.00am. It is acknowledged that when this was discussed with the person in charge, whose FAR certification had expired, they were on site from 7.30am. The roster was amended and the two staff members were rostered on to cover the hours of the children’s attendance from the following day

Provider's corrective action:

1. Two staff members attended and received FAR certification in March 2026 and two completed training in April 2026. This now means the rotas have reverted back to pre-inspection times with two staff trained arriving at 8am and two trained staff on duty until close at 6pm

(1) A person trained in first aid for children was not at all times immediately available to the children attending the pre-school service. The one staff member who holds up to date FAR training was not rostered to work on the day of inspection. The certificates on file for four additional staff trained in FAR had expired. A further three staff had partly completed FAR training with the final part scheduled to be completed on Tuesday 15th July 2025

Provider's corrective action:

All 4 staff have completed their practical FAR training on the evening of the 15th of July and have been awarded their full certs

(2)(a)(b) The first aid boxes provided in the service were not suitably equipped as the majority of the sterile wound dressings and eye pads supplied were out of date

Provider's corrective action:

The day after the inspection 2 large first aid boxes were purchased, one located in office and another on the second floor with an expiry date of 11/27. All class rooms have a small first aid box containing gloves, plasters, alcohol swabs, arnica, thermometer. The Kitchen First aid box contains all of the above and burns dressing. All first aid boxes in the rooms will be regularly checked by management and restocked when needed. The bigger First aid boxes will be checked each term, restocked when needed and new boxes will be purchased before the expiry date 11/27. All staff have been informed - if they need anything out of the first aid boxes please inform management and it will be replaced immediately

(1) The registered provider did not ensure that a person with a First Aid Responder qualification was at all times available to the children attending the service. Documentary evidence indicated that while two staff members had a First Aid Responder (FAR) qualification these staff members were not on the premises at all times

Provider's corrective action:

First Aid: 1. The registered provider will ensure that another staff member is trained in FAR and that there is always a trained member on the premises. The registered provider has indicated that training will take place in early 2025. The registered provider has given an undertaking that all training is kept up to date. Summary Comment The registered provider submitted details of the corrective and preventative actions taken in the service to address the non-compliance. Based on the assurances given by the registered provider that a member of staff who is FAR trained will be on the premises at all times and an undertaking that additional training will take place, the non-compliance under Regulation 25 has been addressed. This will be for review at the next inspection

(1) Based on a review of staff first aid qualifications and the staff roster, it was evident that a person who had undertaken first aid response (FAR) training was not available to the children attending the service at all times. Although 2 staff members held in-date FAR training, the staff roster indicated that from 2.15 – 6.00pm on 09/04/2024 and 12/04/2024, from 5.15 – 6.00pm on 08/04/2024, 10/04/2024 and 11/04/2024 and from 8.00 – 8.15am each morning from 08/04/2024 to 12/04/2024, none of the rostered staff members held FAR training

Provider's corrective action:

The registered provider stated the following corrective actions and preventive actions have been carried out: Corrective Action (1) The management team are currently sourcing first aid courses. Preventive Action (1) The staff rota will be managed on a weekly basis to ensure a FAR-trained member of staff is on the premises at all times. Summary Comment The inspectors reviewed the corrective and preventive actions submitted by the registered provider following the inspection in relation to Regulation 25(1). Assurances given by the registered provider have been accepted and this will be reviewed at the next inspection
