- (2)(a) and (b) While a first aid box was available it did not contain any eye pads
Provider's corrective action:
- The registered provider has bought eye pads and returned them to the first aid box. The registered provider has completed a first aid checklist where management will check contents of the box and record on a monthly basis. The first aid checklist will be used to identify what needs replaced

Laurelhill Community Childcare, Castleblayney · Regulation 25 — First aid
- (2)(a) and (b)The first aid box was inappropriately used for the storage of a cream used for bruising and also some tablets. This could potentially soil first aid dressings/ plasters and is a health and safety risk
Provider's corrective action:
- The two items have been removed from the first aid box. All items in box were checked for quantity and expiry dates. This non-compliance was discussed at the recent staff meeting. The staff were reminded that they must keep any medications or creams that are for their own use, stored safely in their bags, hung out in the entrance hall and cannot be brought into the room or left in the first aid box

- (2) (a) (b) • The first aid materials available on site between both preschool rooms did not contain an adequate supply of materials for the number of children registered to attend the preschool. • Temperature-reducing medications, suncream and antiseptic creams were stored in the first aid boxes, which are at risk of leaking and contaminating the contents of the first aid box. This is a recurring non-compliance from the last inspection, where the registered provider's response detailed that “medicines and ointments have been removed and are stored in a separate box and to ensure medicines and ointments are always labelled and stored in a separate box to other first aid items”. The corrective and preventive actions taken by the registered providers did not prevent the non-compliance from recurring
Provider's corrective action:
- First aid boxes have now been updated and restocked in both preschool rooms. Medication, sun creams and other creams are now stored in a separate box. Ensure all staff are aware of items not being mixed and that these items remain in separate boxes moving forward

Busy Bees Montessori Ltd, Clones · Regulation 25 — First aid
- (1) From the documentation reviewed, the registered provider did not ensure that there was a person trained in First Aid Response (FAR) for children, on the premises at all times. For example there was no staff member on Monday between 4 – 5.30pm; Thursday between 4.30pm and 5.30pm and Friday between 8am – 9am and 3.30pm – 5.30pm. Certificates were available indicating the 2 staff members were trained in First Aid Response (FAR). (2)(a)(b) A first aid box was available to the preschool children, however it did not contain any antiseptic wipes
Provider's corrective action:
- (1)A full time member of staff completed FAR training on 12/01/2026. (2)(a) and (b)Antiseptic wipes were replaced the same day in the first aid box. Staff who are FAR trained are noted on staff rota to ensure someone is always present with FAR training while the preschool children are present. First aid box content will be check each new term by deputy manager

- (1) The registered provider did not ensure that there was a person trained in First Aid Response (FAR) for children, on the premises at all times. For example, one FAR cert was available for inspection and the person qualified was rostered to commence work at 8.30 am. On the day of inspection approximately 7 children were signed in as attending between 8am – 8.30am. This is a recurrent non-compliance identified on the last inspection in 2022 and at variance to the registered provider’s CAPA response at that time stating “The manager has full FAR training and will send more staff members on FAR training to obtain certificates .The manager will ensure staff members have full up to date FAR Training certificates and the rota is covered at all times with qualified FAR trained staff”. The corrective actions submitted following that particular inspection failed to prevent recurrence of this non-compliance
Provider's corrective action:
- Management will ensure FAR trained staff are always present on the premises at all times. The manager has FAR training therefore their start time will be 8am until a second member of staff obtains FAR training. As ratios must be maintained a 2nd member of staff will carryout training at a suitable time when the manager can ensure child – staff ratios are met

- (1) The registered provider did not ensure that there was a person trained in First Aid Response (FAR) for children, on the premises during the following times i.e. during the staff members hour lunch break Monday – Thursday, half hour break Friday and from 5pm – 6pm on a Friday

- (1) The service provider completed FAR training since the last inspection. A reminder has been set up on the nursery phone for 2 months previous to all FAR certs expiring

- (1) The certificates on file for the two staff trained in FAR had expired. Evidence was provided demonstrating that one staff member was registered to attend FAR training on 12th & 13th of March 2025. (2) (a) (b) The first aid box did not contain sufficient materials for the number of children in attendance. Items were noted to have passed their expiry date which included triangle bandages and eye pads
Provider's corrective action:
- 1. One member of staff is completing three Saturdays, with the last Saturday being the 24th of May. One staff member holds in date Community First Responder with extensive training in choking, fitting, heart problems, seizures, strokes and convulsions and is also an Advanced Cardiac First Response with monthly training mandatory. A FAR trainer has also been booked to come to the setting on the 24th of June to complete the training with all other staff. The FAR training will be repeated every two years; therefore every staff member will be kept up to date with the training. Following the completion of each training session I will prioritise submission of the certificates. 2. The first Aid box has been replaced and all materials in date

- (1) On review of the documentation and First Aid Responder (FAR) certificates available, there was not a person trained with FAR available at all times. FAR certs available expired on the 6/6/24. It is acknowledged that the staff had commenced renewal of their FAR training and the final day was scheduled for 4/9/24. (2) There were no eye pads in the first aid box. Opened tubes of medicinal creams were stored in the first aid box with dressings and these are a potential contamination risk
Provider's corrective action:
- 1. All staff members have completed their FAR Training as of 4th September 2024. Staff had already completed part of their training prior to inspection, however the last day had been cancelled due to the trainer being ill. FAR Training will be booked well in advance to the expiry date of current certificates to ensure that we always have FAR trained staff in service at all times. 2. Eye pads have been purchased and are now added to the first aid bag. Continue monthly checks of First Aid bag to ensure that all essentials on the checklist are available to us at all times. 3. Opened tubes have been placed in a zip lock bag in the first aid bag. We will always keep creams in a zip lock bag when they have been opened, before placing into the first aid bag

- (2) The first aid box in the Little Buds Room was inadequately stocked as it did not contain eye pads, small dressings or antiseptic wipes. An opened tube of cream to be administered after a bite or sting was also stored in the first aid box and this was a contamination risk to the dressings and bandages in the box

- (2) The first aid box was restocked. The registered provider has asked staff for a list of what is needed for the first aid box and also given them guidelines. A staff member has been nominated to take charge of the first aid boxes in order to ensure they are adequately stocked

- (1) The staff member working on the 4-6pm has commenced a refresher course on First Aid Responder training. A new employees record file has been created detailing all core training and vetting dates for renewal. Refresher training in First Aid Response will be booked in advance each year
