Regulation 9 — Management and recruitment
- (d) Police vetting was not available for one of the adults, who had resided in another State, while over the age of 18 years
Provider's corrective action:
- (d) The response submitted stated that the police vetting is currently being sought for the adult in question. The process has been initiated but may take several weeks before it is received. As a preventive measure, a checklist of paperwork required prior to any staff member starting in the Family Centre will be implemented
Regulation 20 — Facilities for rest and play
- There were no fitted sheets available for use on the stackable beds, should a child require sleep while in attendance
Provider's corrective action:
- Fitted sheets have been ordered for the stackable beds. The stackable beds are stored in a storeroom alongside the Creche and there is a clearly labelled shelf for bedding material. As a preventive measure, all staff are now aware that the fitted sheets and blankets for the stackable beds are stored on this shelf, should a child require sleep
Regulation 23 — Safeguarding health, safety and welfare of child
- Infection Control: 1. Suitable waste disposal bins were unavailable in some of the sanitary facilities, which may increase the risk of cross infection; - A foot pedal operated bin was not provided in one of the sanitary areas adjoining the Creche room. A lidded bin, which required hand contact with the lid to open, was in place. - Suitable nappy disposal bins were not available in the nappy changing areas adjoining the Creche and the Blue Room, as the bins in use were not foot pedal operated. - The pedal operated bin in one of the sanitary facilities adjoining the Blue Room was broken and could not be properly utilised. 2. The underside of the nappy changing mat in the Creche nappy changing room was not maintained in a clean condition, which increased the risk of cross infection. 3. Warm running water was unavailable at the wash hand basin in the Creche nappy changing room. A temperature of 19.20C was recorded. Cold temperatures may impede effective hand washing and lead to the spread of infection. Action submitted by the Registered Provider
Provider's corrective action:
- Infection Control: 1. Two new foot pedal bins were purchased to replace the bin in the Creche room and the broken bin in the Blue room. Two new foot pedal operated nappy bins were purchased and are now in place. As a preventive measure, staff have been made aware that if a pedal bin or other piece of equipment requires repair, it should be brought to the attention of management, so that it can be dealt with. 2. The underside of the changing mat in question has been thoroughly cleaned. The underside of the nappy changing mat has been added to the daily cleaning schedule of the Creche room. 3. The response received stated that a visit from the plumber, who is due to call over the mid-term break, is awaited, to adjust the temperature of the water at the wash hand basin. Going forward, staff will make a note of any temperature changes in the water and will notify management
Regulation 25 — First aid
- There were insufficient first aid supplies available, as follows: - There were no extra-large wound dressings accessible, where five were required. - Three additional large wound dressings were required. - A supply of safety pins was also unavailable
Provider's corrective action:
- Management have purchased the required extra-large and large dressings, as well as the safety pins. As a preventive measure, monthly checklists will be carried out by each room in relation to the first aid boxes. Staff will also follow the guidelines from the QRF and any missing items will be replaced
Regulation 26 — Fire safety measures
- (a) Monthly fire drills were not completed, as required. It was noted that a fire drill had not been undertaken during the month of December 2023
Provider's corrective action:
- The response submitted outlined that December’s fire drill was missed due to human error and that the service usually practice monthly fire drills. As a preventive measure, a fire drill roster has been set up and an alarm has been set on the service mobile phone, to remind management of the dates chosen
