Regulation 15 — Record of pre-school child
- The following core requirements were missing: (e) Authorisation for collection for one child (f) Details of illness, disability, allergy or special needs for one child (g) The name, and telephone of the general practitioner for one child, and the telephone number of the G.P. for another child. (h) Eleven records of immunisations (i) Written consent for appropriate medical treatment of the children in the event of an emergency was missing for all fifteen children due to the miswording of this core requirement on the registration form
Provider's corrective action:
- (e) The Parent completed the authorisation part of the form. (f) The Parent completed the following particulars, disability, allergy and special needs of the form. (g) Parents completed the GP details and the telephone number for child and the missing G.P number for another child. (h) All eleven records of completed immunisation were received back from parents and added to the files. (i) All fifteen consents for the appropriate treatment of children in the event of an emergency were received and filed. The correct wording has been added to the consent
Regulation 19 — Health, welfare and development of child
- BASIC NEEDS: (1) Water was not offered throughout the day. The inspector observed children taking water bottles from their bags before snack and returning them to their bags straight after snack. In conversation, the registered provider stated that previously children did leave their water bottles on a shelf, but this had not happened in practice for a long time
Provider's corrective action:
- (1) The water bottles have been put on a shelf in the care room for the children to access throughout the day
Regulation 23 — Safeguarding health, safety and welfare of child
- General Safety: (1) There were no restrictors on the windows which were located on the bottom floor, posing a safety issue should children climb on the tables, located directly below each window, and access the open window. Infection Control: (2) Perishable food was not stored in the fridge, posing a risk from spoiling from being left at room temperature in the children’s bags. Administration of Medication: (3) The anti-febrile medication was out of date, posing a risk from the medication being ineffective in the event of an emergency. Fire Safety: (4) Both fire doors, one located in the care room and the other in the hallway, were fitted with key locks, posing a safety issue in the event of an emergency if the key cannot be located. Provider's corrective action:
- General Safety: (1) Window restrictors were fitted week beginning 12 June 2023. Infection Control: (2) Perishable food is now stored in the fridge in the care room. Administration of Medication: (3) A new bottle of anti-febrile medication is now available in the service. Fire Safety (4) Thumb twist cylinders were fitted week beginning 12 June 2023
Regulation 25 — First aid
- 1) The adult with First Aid Responder Training was not available at all times and left the service between 11.25 am and 12.20 pm. In conversation with the registered provider, it was stated that the second adult intends to complete FAR training in the near future. (2) The saline vials in the first aid box were out of date, the date of expiry was recorded as 2021-05. No burn gel was available in either the box or the kit
Provider's corrective action:
- (1) The adult has booked First Aid Responder (FAR) training to ensure that there is a person trained as a First Aid Responder (FAR) available at all times. (2) Saline and burn gel were purchased and put into first aid box
