- The records indicated that the annual servicing of the smoke alarm was dated the 6th of March 2025. The smoke alarm was not serviced and this could potentially lead to a risk to both staff and children in the event of a fire emergency

- : The registered provider has stated in the CAPA form that:
- The fire/smoke alarms was serviced on Monday 13th of July and a certificate of completion was provided. The updated certification is now on file in the service to ensure ongoing compliance with fire safety requirements. A monitoring system has been put in place to track the expiry date of all required safety certificates. Fire alarm and smoke alarms servicing will be scheduled well in advance of the renewal date, with reminders entered into the service calendar

- : The smoke alarm system was serviced on the 7th of July 2026. A reminder has been inputted in the diary for the annual servicing of the smoke alarm system and the fire fighting equipment

- Following the inspection of the service a maintenance check of the fire alarm system in the Preschool took place in November. Future maintenance checks of the system were booked and organised to take place twice yearly

From September to December 2024 only one fire drill was practised, and this was dated the 3rd of October 2024. (b) The servicing of the smoke alarm for the service was not carried out annually. The last service was dated the 13th of July 2022. The registered provider had the smoke alarm system serviced on the 13th of June 2025 following the inspection. These non-compliances posed a risk to the safety of children and staff attending the service in the event of an emergency

- : The registered provider has stated the following: (1)(a) Fire drill will be practised on a monthly basis and will be included in the monthly compliance tracker. The service will document each fire drill in the fire safety file and a head count before and after each drill will be included. (b)The smoke alarm was immediately serviced on the 13th of June 2025. The fire drills and the smoke alarm system will be on a monthly/yearly compliance tracker to ensure this will not reoccur in the future

- (1)(a) Fire drills were not carried out by the service every month and more frequently if necessary. The records demonstrate that only two fire drill took place from January to June 2025, and these were dated 27th of February 2025 and 8th of April 2025. From September to December 2024 only two fire drills were practised, and these were dated the 16th of October 2024 and 18th of December 2024. This posed a risk to the safety of the children and staff attending the service
Provider's corrective action:
- The registered provider has stated that: A fire drill took place on the 16th of June 2025. Fire drills will be conducted monthly in Elmwood Preschool. The updated ‘Fire Drill Log’ is displayed and the service plans to review and update the policies/logs more frequently

- : The registered provider has stated in the action and preventative form that the following measures were taken:
- A monthly fire drill on the 11th of April 2024 was carried out. The service will continue to practice monthly fire drills and will maintain a written record of all the fire drills that take place in the service. These monthly fire drills will be logged and displayed. (b) The firefighting equipment was serviced on the 10/04/2024 and an electrical contractor checked and tested the Fire Detection Smoke Alarm System on the 12/04/2024
