- (b) While a record of the maintenance of the firefighting equipment was maintained and last recorded as having taken place in September 2025, the service had not maintained a record of the smoke alarm checks since the last inspection. A referral has been set to the local authority
Provider's corrective action:
- The following response was submitted by the registered provider. During monthly fire drill checks, smoke alarms are always checked to make sure they are working as we use them to start the fire drill, I did not note this on the monthly fire drill records which I was unaware that I should have. I will make sure that all information is recorded going forward to be compliant. A fire safety contractor visits yearly to service and maintain equipment and smoke alarms

- (1)(b) A record was maintained of the dates of checking and maintenance of the firefighting equipment and fire alarm system in the service, by a reputable contractor. While it is acknowledged that the last maintenance check for the firefighting equipment was compliant and recorded as having taken place on the 02 September 2025, the smoke alarm system had not been serviced since the last recorded date of April 2024
Provider's corrective action:
- The registered provider submitted the following response. Corrective and Preventive Action The fire alarm contractor called to the setting week of January 26th and he serviced the alarms. He is going to post out the new certificate

In Safe Hands Early Learning & Care Centre Ltd, Bagenalstown · Regulation 26 — Fire safety measures
- (1)(b) While the registered provider maintained a record of the number, type and maintenance of fire-fighting equipment and smoke alarms in the service, the last maintenance check for the fire-fighting equipment was recorded as having taken place in August 2023 and for the smoke alarm system was recorded as having taken place on 12 December 2022. This was not in line with fire safety recommendations whereby an annual maintenance check of fire-fighting equipment and smoke alarm systems is recommended. A referral has been sent to the county chief fire officer
Provider's corrective action:
- The following corrective and preventive actions were submitted by the registered provider. Corrective and Preventive Action A fire safety company have completed a thorough check and have been contracted to test and maintain the fire equipment. Fire equipment has been checked and updated as needed. The service now has a contract for fire safety maintenance and fire equipment checks regularly

Provider's corrective action:
- A record of the annual maintenance of the fire equipment dated July 2023 was received by the inspector. The smoke alarm in the service was last serviced in September 2023. Summary Comment The response and evidence received is satisfactory to meet the requirements of The Childcare Act 1991 (Early Years Services) Regulations 2016
