  • Infection Control: The staff member was spoken to and the handwashing policy was provided again to read. Management will monitor the preschool room, and spot checks will be done on a regular basis. All staff got a copy of the hand- washing policy just to keep fresh in mind.   • General Safety: 1. The registered provider stated in the response that the collection point was immediately changed to the side entrance, and parents were informed by our social media group immediately of the collection change. Our collection policy was updated and submitted to show this change. The entrance door and exit door (the side door) will be always monitored. The service will use the internal gate as an extra barrier for children before they reach the door. We will not use the front door for entering or exiting the building. (Procedure included) 2. The registered provider stated in the response that a refrigerator has been purchased and placed in the ladybird room, so children in the ladybird room and turtle room can place their lunches in this refrigerator when they arrive. A second fridge has been placed in the butterfly room, for use by the butterfl ies and caterpillar room. All children’s lunches are now placed into the refrigerators when they arrive in the morning. Provider's corrective action:
  • General Safety: The person in charge stated in the response that: 1. The fire alarm company for the service inspected the door on 20/05/26 and have ordered the alarm needed. It will be fitted by 01/07/2026. Staff will always supervise the door area to ensure the push bar is not used by children. (Confirmation email and work docket submitted). 2. The use of the fire door to drop and collect children has been stopped. Children will be dropped and collect through the main door or back door which has glass panels to verify the identity of any individual. Parents have been made aware of the change and have agree to use alternative doors for safety. Staff have acknowledged and implemented the change. (Digital platform message to parents and notice to staff included). 3. A risk assessment has been put in place to cover the space between the garden gate and the back door. It was also explained to staff about using the entry door within our premises to enter and exit the garden where possible. A risk assessment has been put in place for using the footpath outside the building. It was also explained to staff about using the entry door within our premises to enter and exit the garden when in the garden. I have followed up with the nurse that completed the training with the relevant staff member regarding documenting the training provided. The nappy changing procedure has been updated to reflect the removal of gloves and apron before redressing and handwashing after nappy changing has been completed. Provider's corrective action:
  • General Safety: 1. The water temperatures were regulated by a plumber in the children’s sanitary accommodation sinks downstairs and ECCE 1. The service will ensure all sanitary areas water temperatures are checked and correct. • The toilet bowels were removed from the outdoor play area. Any materials left on the premises by maintenance workers will be discarded appropriately and out of reach by children. A new risk assessment for maintenance workers put in place. Staff spoken to about the importance of checking all rooms once maintenance workers have completed their job. New risk assessment in place. • Sand and water tables have been cleaned and covered. Sand and water tables outdoors will be covered to prevent any risk of infection. • The Laois County Council warden has been contacted regarding issues with neighbours discarding food in the garden resulting in birds picking the food waste or bones and dropping it in the services outdoor area. Until this issue is resolved staff will check for any food or bones in the garden regularly. 2. All outdoor toys have been cleaned and will be checked daily to prevent any harm of infection to children. All outdoor equipment and toys will be checked each morning and afternoon before signing the risk assessment. The staff have been spoken to regarding the potential hazards or harm to children if risk assessments are signed off without the assessment being carried out beforehand. 3. The Christmas lights have been removed from the Toddler room. The service will ensure staff are aware of the potential hazard that these cables may cause to a child and ensure any cables are out of reach to any child. Infection Control: 4. Hand washing procedures have been placed at all hand-washing stations. The hand-washing policy has been given to all staff and spoken to about the importance of hand washing for themselves and children to prevent spread of potential infections. 5. Daily check lists for the children’s sanitary accommodation have been updated and will be checked regularly. • The swing lid bin in use in ECCE1 sanitary accommodation has been replaced with a pedal bin. • Checklist being monitored, checked and completed daily by staff. 6. Plastic drinking cups and bowls are no longer stacked on or in the sink in the toddler room. The sink is cleaned regularly, and cloths and sponges are now stored in a separate basket out of reach from children. A basket has been provided for children to place used cups and bowls in. A cleaning checklist in in place to ensure sinks are being cleaned regularly. A basket provided for cloths and sponges away from children’s reach. Staff spoken to about the importance of cleanliness. 7. Children are fully supervised when having snacks in the outdoor area. Staff spoken to about the importance of supervision when children eat in the outdoor area and the importance of cleaning up and discarding all foods that may fall on the ground. 8. All staff have been spoken to about the importance of health and hygiene and how if a dinner spills a new dinner should be offered. 9. All soothers are now placed in individual labelled boxes to prevent cross contamination and staff have been spoken to regarding the potential risk of infection if soothers are shared. Administration of Medication: Parents of children requiring specific medication and care plans were contacted immediately on the day of inspection and out of date epi pens have been replaced. Staff will check dates on all auto injectors regularly and care plans in place. Care plans are in place for children requiring one. Staff training has been completed in administration medication

  • General Safety: The toaster has been removed to a more suitable location. All hazards identified on the day have been removed. New fencing has been installed in the outdoor play area. A radiator cover has been fitted to the radiator. Infection Control: A sign has been printed and laminated and put on boxes for mouthed toys to ensure greater clarity for everyone.   • General Safety: The person in charge stated in the response that: 1. On Thursday 26th February an immediate action was taken, the side gates were secured and all entry was through the front door only for all classes. The electrician has now fitted a permanent electromagnetic device with keypad to both gates, that will only be used by staff. Parents drop off and collection point is at front door. (Photographs included). 2. The fire door in Purple Ants room has been fitted with an alarm. (Photographs included). 3. The service had a health and safety assessment conducted to be sure any changes are in line with fire safety, ambulance and wheelchair access. A barrier was ordered to be made that meet this requirement and is due to be fitted which will be a permanent structure. (Sample type photograph included). 4. The sliding door has been secured and a stopper to prevent door from being derailed has been installed. (Photographs included). 5. A shelf has been fitted in the sleep room and the monitor and cable are safely secured. (Photograph included). 6. In respect of the kitchen, signs have been placed on the gate and all staff have been made aware that the gate must be always closed. (Photograph included). 7. In respect of the office administrative and management staff have been made aware that the door must be always closed. (Photograph included). 8. Indoor and outdoor monthly checklists were completed following the July 2025 inspection by management and we have now introduced individual classroom checklists also. (Photograph included). Infection Control: The person in charge stated in the response that: 1. Visual reminders for handwashing have been placed in the nappy changing areas and all staff have been re-trained in procedures. Our industry supplier was contacted and we have appropriate labelled bottles and instructions for staff. (Photograph included). 4.   • General Safety: 1. The registered provider cut the grapes on the day of inspection and sent a reminder text message to the parents regarding cutting small fruit. 2. The registered provider moved the lock on the side entrance gate up high out of reach of children. The gate is locked until collection time. A sign saying ‘please close the gate’, was put on the front gate to encourage parents to close the gate during drop off and collection times. Infection Control: 3.   • General Safety: The registered provider stated in the response that on the day of inspection a plumber arrived once the water was tested and was too hot. The plumber fixed the issue straight away to meet the required temperature to be safe. The plumber was asked to return and change all taps after this inspection and check that there was no chance of this happening again. There will be weekly checks to check the temperature on all taps this will be added to the cleaning/ safety books in each room going forward.   • General Safety: 1. Parents and staff have been reminded to cut grapes in half. A letter to parents has been sent to remind them of such precautions. As a preventive action a letter will be sent to parents at the beginning of the school year and periodically resent as a reminder. Staff will be reminded to check lunchboxes and cut up fruit if it is not. 2. The Carbon Monoxide alarm is going to be installed on the premises to 31/08/2025 before the reopening after summer break. 3. A letter to parents has been sent to remind them of such precautions. Parents have also been reminded about the risk of hooped earrings which were removed and returned to parents in an envelope. The letter to parents reminding them of safety will be sent to them at the beginning of the school year and periodically resent as a reminder. Staff will also check and ask parents to remove unsuitable jewellery upon child’s arrival to the preschool. Fire Safety: The code to the gate has been shared with the staff verbally.   • General Safety: 1. The healthy eating policy and risk management policies were reviewed and updated. All staff were trained in the new policies. 2. The cable was removed. A weekly risk assessment checklist has been implemented. Hazard checks will be conducted regularly using the new checklists. All staff received training. Infection Control: 1. A sign was put in place at the immersion to remind staff to turn the immersion on daily. 2. Paper hand towels were ordered. 3. A new nappy changing mat was ordered. 4. The items stored above the toilet were removed. 5. A fridge was purchased for use in the preschool and perishable lunches are now stored in the fridge. Outing: 1. The hand soap has been replaced with a liquid soap container that is now within the child’s reach. (Photographic evidence included). 2. The cleaning solution has been refilled and labelled with instructions. All staff have been retrained in the correct method of storing and mixing the cleaning solution. All new signage has been installed for fire safety and layout of rooms have been changed to ensure there is no obstruction to the doors. 2.   • General Safety: The registered provider stated in the response that: 1. The water at all wash hand basins in ground floor children’s toilet basin 3 and 5, ground floor pre-school rooms and upstairs ECCE 3 have been thermostatically controlled and their temperatures are now regulated to no more than 43 Celsius. The service will continue daily risk assessments but checking throughout the day that the temperatures do not go above 43 Celsius. (Photograph included). 2. Renewal of Garda vetting was applied for the next day. All staff that are due renewals have been written in the management diary for two weeks prior to the due date, to prevent this from reoccurring in the future. (Photograph included). 3. Three of the five floor mats have been removed. The service will ensure to buy mats and rugs with non- slip material to prevent any hazards. (Photograph included). Infection Control: The registered provider stated in the response that: 1. Refreshment of nappy changing procedure was given to all staff members and the importance of infection control. Nappy changing practice will be brought into the staff meeting to ensure we all follow procedures that are provided. 2. The nappy changing bin and all bins have been replaced with foot operated, sealed and airtight bins. Before purchasing bins, the service will ensure that it is correctly sealed and airtight and is operated by foot pedal. (Photograph included). 3. Fire Safety: The registered provider stated in the response that: Self-illuminated fire exit signate has been installed to indicate the fire exit routes from the wobbler and toddler rooms and ECCE 1 and 2 on the ground floor.   • The registered provider stated in the response that the nappy changing procedure (displayed on the wall) was immediately highlighted to individual educators with emphasis on the different steps to be taken – e.g. remove personal protective equipmwnt before redressing the child. The procedure was also included on the agenda for the next staff meeting where a demonstration of the correct steps took place. Educators had an opportunity to present how they change nappies with feedback from the supervisor. Educators were reminded to adhere to the nappy changing procedure as it is displayed on the wall of the nappy changing area. Regular checks and observations of practice to be carried out by the supervisor or area manager. (Nappy changing procedure, agenda and minutes of staff meeting included)
  • The registered provider stated in the response that individual spray bottles of disinfectant have been purchased and provided to each room for use instead of the previous branded mixture. Management will take greater care when ordering resources to ensure that they meet the specifications required under the QRF and Childcare Regulations.
