Claremount Early Learning and Childcare Centre Limited, Claremorris · Regulation 19 — Health, welfare and development of child
- 1. An individual care plan was devised for a child attending the service. However, the staff working with this child informed the inspector that they were unaware of the contents of the care plan as it was developed with management and stored in the office. Contents were not shared with the staff working with the child on a daily basis. It was stated in the CAPA following the inspection of the 11/11/25 that children who require additional support will be identified and their care needs planned for in the form of an individual care plan. 2. On the day of inspection, for the main meal, plain chicken, beans and mashed potatoes with gravy was offered to the children. In the Montessori room, a number of children stated they did not like the plain chicken offered. The staff informed the inspector that they were aware that not all the children liked this dinner, but an alternative was not available. The staff were observed taking chicken off some plates and putting extra potatoes and beans from other plates to try and suit the children’s choices. Three children only had potatoes and gravy. A small jug of gravy was available, 2 children were heard ask for more gravy, but they were told there was no more available. The staff were aware that the children would not eat this dinner, but an alternative was not available and many children did not eat this meal. 3. The children were served their dinner on small plastic plates and were given dessert spoons to eat with. The cutlery and plates were not suitable for the children’s age and stage of development
Provider's corrective action:
- (1) The written care plan has been shared with staff members and is available to view within the care room. Management will ensure that this procedure is carried out with future care plans. (2) The main cook within the service was not working on the day of inspection. The cook has taken note of the children’s food interests and will monitor and adjust the menu accordingly. An alternative meal will be available for children. (3) Larger plates and cutlery are now available for the older children. Younger children will have plates appropriate to their age

Killeen Childcare Ltd, Louisburgh · Regulation 19 — Health, welfare and development of child
- The playroom lacked a soft seating area where they could sit and relax during the session. The only seating that was available to the children were the low-level chairs and the small foam discs that they sat on when they arrived at the service in the morning. This may have an impact on the children attending as they did not have an area to sit and relax or opt out on an activity if they wish
Provider's corrective action:
- The registered provider stated the following in their reply: Corrective and Preventive Action An area located in the corner of the room was created specially as a soft seat area away from the main activity centre of the playroom, this area will be further developed in the future

- • There was no soft seating in the ECCE 1 playroom for children to rest on if they needed to during the day
Provider's corrective action:
- The registered provider advised in a written response that: Corrective and Preventive Action The service has ordered two new soft seating couches for the ECCE 1 playroom and hope to have them delivered at the end of November/start of December. The registered provider will ensure that every playroom always has soft seating available to provide rest and relaxation for the children

Bright Beginnings Childcare Centre, Westport · Regulation 19 — Health, welfare and development of child
- • The privacy and dignity of the children from the Wobbler Ducklings and Toddler Turtles care rooms was not respected in the nappy changing room. The inspector observed staff members changing the nappies of multiple children in the nappy changing room at the same time. In conversation, the registered provider stated that this was due to an unexpected staff absence on the day of inspection
Provider's corrective action:
- The following statements were received from the registered provider; • An additional staff member has been employed to ensure that the individual toileting needs of the children are being addressed. Staff have been reminded of the privacy and dignity needs of the children while nappy changing

Sasta Early Learning Centre, Charlestown · Regulation 19 — Health, welfare and development of child
- • A group activity in the Blooms playroom was organised using boards and coloured strings. This play equipment was stored at a height and two children were observed to climb on chairs to try to access the equipment which was not easily accessible to them
Provider's corrective action:
- The service advised in a written response that: Corrective and Preventive Action • Play equipment is always stored in a low shelving unit, however that day a staff member had left them there for a short time. A picture has been submitted showing where the items are normally stored

Stepping Stones Community Playgroup, Claremorris · Regulation 19 — Health, welfare and development of child
- Basic needs (1) (a) The healthy eating policy was not implemented on the day of inspection. Children were observed to eat biscuits, chocolate spread sandwiches and sugary drinks during their snack. This was a non compliance on the previous inspection. It is acknowledged that the registered provider has shared the healthy eating policy in place in the service with the parents
Provider's corrective action:
- (1)(a) A reminder text message and email were issued to all parents with details of the service healthy eating policy and examples of healthy snacks provided. Unhealthy food items will be returned home

Breaffy Crèche & Pre-school, Castlebar · Regulation 19 — Health, welfare and development of child
- (1) (a) 1. The children from the Baby and Full Day Care playrooms did not play outdoors during the inspection. Staff informed the inspector that the children were not always provided with opportunities to play outdoors daily. 2. Children aged over two years of age in one of the playrooms were placed in highchairs to eat their meals. The children were developmentally ready to sit at the low chairs and tables provided in the dining room. 3. There were a limited number of books available to the children in the Full Day Care playroom and some of them had torn or missing pages limiting their use
Provider's corrective action:
- The registered provider advised in a written response that: Corrective and Preventive Action (1) (a) 1. All children now go outdoors during the day. All children have wellingtons and waterproof clothing, so they are able to go outdoors in bad weather. 2. The children two years and over are now sitting at the table for snacks and lunch. Staff have been made aware that children aged two and over should not be sitting in highchairs. 3. The library has been restocked with books. Staff will check the library regularly and restock it when necessary

- At mealtime, two children were observed to eat packets of crisps as part of their snacks. This was contrary to the service’s healthy eating policy that detailed that crisps were not permitted in the service
Provider's corrective action:
- The registered provider advised in a written response that:
- Corrective and Preventive Action • The registered provider and staff will continuously implement the Healthy Eating Policy with the parents and remove packets of crisps from lunch boxes on arrival of the children. • All staff will have refresher training on the Healthy Eating Policy and implementation of same will be monitored by registered provider. Summary Comment The actions taken by the registered provider have been reviewed by the Early Years Inspectorate and deemed to have addressed the regulatory non-compliance found on inspection
