- 1. Milk was not offered as a drink to the children at mealtimes in the ECCE 2 and Baby rooms
Provider's corrective action:
- 1. Milk is offered milk to the children attending ECCE 2 and Baby room. The cook will put milk on the tray alongside the dinner. All staff have been informed that milk must be given to children during meals

- (1)(a) Physical and material environment: 1. The physical and material environment in the Baby room require d review to meet the developmental requirements of the age group attending which was 10 months to 2 years. There were not an adequate quantity and variety of toys and equipment in the room to meet the various age and development stages of the children . There were minimal areas of interest and what was available was inadequately presented. There were shape sorters, shape sorters, plastic interactive toys, balls, small world animals, chalk, crayons and paper and a small amount of material book available in the room. A work bench unit did not have the required props for example, plastic hammers, wrenches, work boxes, foam blocks, construction dress up clothes including a work hat to prompt make believe and symbolic play and learning for the older age group in the Baby room. There were no sensory play opportunities for example sand, water, gloop or shredded paper, and no push pull toys to promote the younger children’s gross motor development and/or real-life equipment to encourage children’s imaginative play. Additional equipment such as soft climbing cushions, a mirror and pull to stand bar to assist children pull to stand who are not yet mobile, a crawling tunnel, s imple peg board puzzles, stacking toys and shape sorter puzzles, sensory mats, push/pull equipment, treasure baskets with natural and open -ended materials, rattles and musical instruments, would support the children’s gross motor development, imagination and curiosity. Age-appropriate books such as material type books with touch and feel textured pages, small hardback picture books, a selection of lift the flap books, books with peek a boo pages, musical and nursery rhymes, books with hand puppets to support story time interaction with the children would support the chi ldren’s developing language, social and emotional skills. A home corner with a kitchen play unit is required and should include props for example, tea sets, pots and pans, dolls, cot/buggies , play hoover to prompt make believe and symbolic play and learning for the older children in the Baby room. 2. The children in the Baby room were observed not to go outdoors for play during the inspection
Provider's corrective action:
- 1. The Baby room has now various toys and equipment for the ages and stages of development (10 months - 2 years). Staff will ensure that an adequate quantity and variety of toys and equipment is available at all times for the ages and stages of development. 2. Staff will ensure that children play outdoors every day

- 1. The individual sleep needs of some children in the Playroom were not promptly responded to on the day of the inspection as evidenced by the following observations. • The staff members did not recognise the signs of tiredness that the children were displaying which included crying and falling asleep in the staff members arms. • At 12:07 two children were observed asleep in a bouncer and a buggy rather than in cots which were available. Sleep observations were not maintained. 2. In the Playroom, the transition during the period of lunch time, nappy changing and preparing children for sleep was observed to be disorganised and pressurised as evidenced by the following observations: • some children were still eating their lunch, some children had finished lunch and were playing, a staff member commenced tidying and cleaning of tables, some children were observed to be crying and were being carried by staff while they waited for their nappy change and the sleep room to be prepared , nappy changing had commenced. • The noise level was raised in the room. • Two young children were observed self-feeding finger food while not being under the direct observation of a member of staff in case they choked or inhaled a piece of finger food. • A preschool child was observed lying in a bouncer self-feeding a bottle milk. A staff member was requested by inspector to sit and nurse the child while feeding to ensure the child’s safety. 3. There was no armchair in the Playroom for staff members to sit with children who may require nurturing or comforting
Provider's corrective action:
- 1. Following the feedback meeting with inspector room leaders were immediately spoken to regarding the importance of ensuring all children were given the opportunity for sleep in their cots even if they only need a short nap and not in buggy or bouncer. A staff meeting was then held where we reviewed our sleep policy to ensure that everybody was up to speed with it and an emphasis on the importance of sleep for children, signs of tiredness and the non-use of bouncers/buggies for sleep. We will e nsure our sleep policy is up to date, understood by all staff members and carried out correctly through supervision by management. 2. The dinners in the Playroom are now staggered with the youngest children been fed first ensuring that they are supervised at all times. Foods such as fish fingers are now chopped finely and mashed into the youngest children’s dinners. The older children continue with their activities/play with other staff members and then have their dinner in a relaxed environment. Clean up does not start until all children have eaten. Cots are made up first thing in the morning. An armchair has been added to the room. At the staff meeting all staff received training on the correct bottle-feeding procedure. We have reviewed our settling in policy to ensure that children are settled in on an individual basis. 3. An armchair has been added to the Playroom

- Physical and material environment: 1. The physical and material environment in the Baby room requires review to meet the developmental requirements of the age group attending which was 18 months to 2 years. It is acknowledged that there was an adequate quantity of toys and equipment in the room however they were placed on the window sills, on high shelves or in containers and not freely available to the children to make their own choices about what they would like to play with. A standing multi activity unit and a baby gym were unsuitable for the age group attending on the day. There were minimal areas of interest and what was available was poorly presented. The kitchen play unit required more props for examp le, tea sets, pots and pans, dolls, cot/buggies, child sized hoover to prompt make believe and symbolic play and learning for the age group in the Baby room. There w ere no sensory play opportunities , push pull toys and minimal real-life equipment to encourage children’s imaginative play. Additional equipment such as soft climbing cushions, a crawling tunnel, simple peg board puzzles, stacking toys and shape sorter puzzles, sensory mats, push/pull equipment, treasure baskets with natural and open -ended materials, rattles and musical instruments, will support the chi ldren’s developing language, social and emotional skills as well as stimulating their imagination and curiosity. 2. There were no sensory play materials such as sand , water, play dough available to the children attending the Senior Toddler room. 3. The children in the Baby and Senor Toddler room were observed not to go outdoors for play during the inspection. It is acknowledged that there was maintenance works in the main outdoor area however there were alternative outdoor areas available in the service
Provider's corrective action:
- 1. The baby room has been reviewed. Toys and materials are now stored so the children have free choice of play and more defined areas of play has been created to make it more inviting for the children. Those areas are fully stocked with props and materials for symbolic pay. A new sensory bu sy board has been attached to the wall and 2 hand held ones. We also have a sensory table where the children can enjoy sand and water play. There is new push / pull equipment soft climbing cushions and additional equipment to stimulate the children’s imagination and curiosity. The rooms will be reviewed at the end of each term to ensure that they are meeting the children’s stages of development as they grow within their environment. 2. A new sensory table was purchased so the children can enjoy sand and water play. Play dough is made weekly and stored in a sealed container so children can enjoy play dough with a variety of tools/cutters and shapes. A new cleaning/risk assessment was created for each room with questions to prompt staff to ensure there is clean fresh water/sand/playdough available for the children. 3. The children were brought out in the afternoon and staff were advised of the importance of daily outdoor time for all children. There is new fencing in place to secure all outdoor areas
