- The following policies did not meet the regulatory requirements: 1. The infection control policy did not outline the following: • Respiratory hygiene practices and procedures for children. • Safe management of perishable foods. • The correct infection control measures for nappy changing. • The requirement to notify the agency of infectious diseases. 2. The healthy eating policy did not outline the following: • Inclusion of specific dietary, cultural or religious requirements. • Supporting parents and guardian’s choices. • How food is safety stored and served. • How children are supervised while eating and drinking. 3. The outdoor play policy did not outline the following: • How children are supervised during play. • The procedure for carrying out risk assessments. • The safety requirements of the outdoor play area. Therefore, the above policies and procedures may not adequately guide the staff in their care practices
Provider's corrective action:
- The following response was received from the registered provider: Corrective and Preventive Action (1)(2)(3) The three above policies have been updated. A regular review will take place between management to ensure policies are up to date

Shournagh Childcare, Blarney · Regulation 10 — Policies, procedures etc. of pre-school service
- A review of the infection control policy was completed. It was identified that details including hand hygiene practice for staff and children was not available within the policy. Details on the safe management of perishable food and the infection control measures for nappy changing and toileting procedures to be followed were not set out in the policy. Not ensuring that these details are included in the infection control policy does not support safe infection control procedures within the service
Provider's corrective action:
- The registered provider updated their infection control policy to included details regarding hand hygiene practices for staff and children. Meetings were held with the staff team to inform them of the hand hygiene practices and ensure they had a full understanding of the importance of following the correct policies

- The policy on safe sleep did not include the following: • It did not describe the sudden infant death syndrome prevention guidance and protective measures for children under 12 months. • It did not describe the sleep facilities for children of all ages. Only reference to children aged over 2 years was included. Therefore, the above policy may not adequately guide the staff in their care practices
Provider's corrective action:
- The safe sleep policy has been updated accordingly. It now describes the sleep facilities for children of all ages, as well as protective measures for children under 12 months. Policies will be reviewed more regularly, to ensure they are up to date and that staff are guided correctly

- 1. The complaints policy was reviewed. The policy contained most of the guidance required for the service to manage a complaint should one be received. However, the policy did not state how the records of all complaints received by the service would be stored. Not ensuring the records were safely stored may hinder them being found in the event they were required

- 1. The complaints policy has been updated and now includes the managing of the complaints records. The registered provider is responsible for the safe storage of all complaint records

- The registered provider responded to state that the policy was reviewed and amended, and was uploaded to the service parent app. The registered provider stated they will keep policies under constant review, and in the coming weeks they will add ‘storage of records’ where applicable to each policy in the service

- The following policies were examined and found to be inadequate- 1. Whilst there was a policy on behaviour management it did not set out practices that are prohibited in the service for example, corporal punishment or degrading and neglectful practices. 2. Although a comprehensive policy on the administration of emergency medications was on file it was incomplete as it did not set out the procedures for dealing with and administering children’s prescription and over the counter medications
