Talbots Gate Childcare and Early Learning Centre Limited, Kilkenny · Regulation 24 — Checking in and out and record of attendance
- (1) On Day 1 of the inspection, at 10:20 hours during the process of carrying out an overview of the adult to child ratios in the classrooms the inspector observed that one child who had been present in the junior playschool room since 09:00 hours had not been signed into the classroom’s attendance records. The staff member in the room explained to the inspector that the child was registered in the toddler classroom’s attendance records, however on checking the toddler room’s attendance records the child was not signed in that attendance record either. The child’s attendance time was signed in once the inspector had highlighted the error to the staff present and to the registered provider. The inspector observed that there were a few children in various classrooms whose names were not in the classroom’s attendance register but were in another classroom’s register, as they moved from one classroom to another at some stage during their day in the service, this could pose a risk in the event of an emergency. The risk of not accounting for and maintaining an efficient record of every child in attendance in each classroom, in the service was highlighted to the registered provider
Provider's corrective action:
- The registered provider submitted the following response. Corrective and Preventive Action All children who move rooms to the end of the registers for that room. Ensure that if a child is not staying in the same room for the entire day that they are also registered in the room in which they are moving to. Ensure going forward that at the end of the attendance registers that children’s names are added for “Afternoon/Evening” To add, when a child is moving from their morning session to their evening session, the child’s name will be on both registers and signed in and out for the time they moved room

- (3)(b) While it is acknowledged that the service maintained a visitors’ book detailing the date and names of any visitors to the service, details such as the visitor’s contact number, reason for visiting the service, name of person approving the visitor’s entry and check in and out times were not requested or recorded
Provider's corrective action:
- The registered provider submitted the following response. Corrective and Preventive Action New visitors book was developed to include the visitors contact number, name, reason for visit, and name of person approving visitors’ entry, including times in and out of the building. Old book has now been filed, with our new visitors book up and running since receiving the report

- (3) While the inspector observed that the staff ensured that no other person other than a pre-school child, person dropping or collecting a child, employee or unpaid worker could enter the premises without their entry being approved by an employee., there was no visitor record maintained detailing visitors to the service. The visitor record must include the date, person’s name, contact number, reason for entry, name of person approving access to the service, check in and out times
Provider's corrective action:
- The manager has created and implemented a visitor sign in folder The Manager has informed the staff team about the visitor sign-in folder, and all staff will endeavour to maintain this record
