Askamore Childcare Centre CLG, Gorey · Regulation 20 — Facilities for rest and play

Provider's corrective action:
  • 1. We have now removed the sleep mats from the toddler room sleep room and they are being used for circle time and role play activities. We have replaced the sleep mats with the stackable beds, each child’s sheet and blankets will be kept in their own personable containers labelled with child’s name and picture when they are not in use to ensure infection prevention and control. 2. We have now installed removable blinds on the windows in the main toddler room which block out light and ensure the children sleeping are not sleeping in direct sunlight or a brightly lit room. We will continue to use the block out blinds to ensure the main toddler room area where children are sleeping is not brightly lit and children are not in direct sunlight

  • The registered provider submitted the following response to address the non-compliances: Corrective and Preventive Action The cushions and mats are washed weekly. The committee will plan to budget for a carpet area in and around our quiet area and our board of directors will add it to the agenda for our next financial meeting

Provider's corrective action:
  • The registered provider submitted the following response to address the non-compliance: Corrective and Preventive Action: Supplies are being supplied to ensure a fully resourced outdoor area. Wooden kitchen is being moved and re- designed, indoor playhouse to be revamped, and open-ended materials to always be available. The indoor now have specified tuff trays and sensory play areas for the children to use daily. Staff are advised to keep this available at all times. This will support sensory exploration, especially when weather does not allow for outdoor sand play. Staff have been advised to ensure that open ended material and exploration play is available. Management have purchased a variety of materials to support this type of play

Provider's corrective action:
  • The registered provider stated that:
  • 1. Opened ended materials have been included in the junior room. The manager will relay to the registered provider the equipment form and materials needed. 2. Both junior and pre-montessori have been restocked with more books. The manager will do a stock check and add to the equipment form and relay it to the registered provider. (b) 3. The parents have signed a letter allowing their child to go from a cot to a low -level bed. The manager will add the letter to the enrolment form for any child under two years of age. 4. New beds were bought and all children that sleep have a bed and sheet to lie on . The registered provider will provide more beds if needed, at the moment the service has enough to cover all and spares. 5. A space has been allocated in a quiet area in the ecce room for any child to sleep if needed . The manager has spoken to staff in the ecce room to be aware of a child that needs to sleep and provide a bed and quiet area to allow it to do so. 6. All room have been allocated a cosy corner. Registered provider has spoken to all staff about the need for a rest area for all the children in all room which have to be kept in place at all times , except for sleep time in the pre-montessori room. The mats have been fixed to the walls for comfort . Registered provider and manager will assess all rest areas weekly to assure they are comfortable for the children to use and see if anything else is needed to make it so

Bri Beag Childcare, Enniscorthy · Regulation 20 — Facilities for rest and play

Provider's corrective action:
  • In the Bumblebee Room: sleep beds are available to the children aged over two years of age. In the Butterfly Room/Full Day care: Sofas have been removed in one corner and the team have a plan to develop that area in a Danish ‘hygge style’. A nice comfortable rug, fairy lights and plants are being sourced, the area will be surrounded with more natural materials like sea grass, wicker and timber elements. The service will keep updating and upgrading all the classrooms

  • The registered provider submitted the following response: Corrective and Preventive Action 1. Two new beds were purchased and are in place. We will ensure there is an adequate number of beds going forward. 2. The toys were removed from the outdoor area. We will ensure that staff follow daily checks for the outdoor as well as indoor to remove broken toys. 3. Fiadh’s room has a relaxation corner. If a child requires sleep, we can take a bed from toddler room
