Regulation 9 — Management and recruitment
- (2)(a), (b) There was no evidence to demonstrate that two references available for one staff member had been verified by the registered providers. (3) The procedures specified in paragraph (2) as detailed above had not been carried out prior to a staff member being appointed

- (2)(a), (b) The references have now been verified and filed appropriately. (3) Monthly checks will be carried out on staff file
Regulation 19 — Health, welfare and development of child
- 1. In Seomra Ghrian the areas within the care room were not clearly defined. A large amount of equipment was present in the room, which contributed to the environment appearing cluttered. There were numerous toys and play items stored on top of units, including castles and houses, as a result, children did not have the opportunity to independently access these areas thereby limiting the play space available. 2. The designated cosy area in Seomra Ghrain was not accessible to children as the seating space was covered by a large soft toy and two bean bags. This prevented children from using the area for rest, quiet play, or relaxation. The inspector observed that children did not enter or play in this area
Provider's corrective action:
- 1.The room has been cleared and rearranged with more space. 2. The room has been cleared and rearranged. Rest area is now accessible. Monthly checks will be carried out
Regulation 23 — Safeguarding health, safety and welfare of child
- Infection Control: 1. In Seomra Réalt seventeen children were present and only one child was observed to wash their hands prior to eating snack. This practice increases the risk of cross contamination and was not in line with the service’s infection control policy. 2. Paper towels were not available to children in one of the sanitary areas to facilitate good hand hygiene posing a potential infection control risk. 3. A toilet training seat was on the floor of the toilet area posing a risk of cross contamination and poor hygiene practice. 4. Children’s lunch boxes were not stored in a refrigerator as required on the day of inspection. This increases the risk of causing illness to young children. 5. The laminate covering on a table in Seomra Ghrian was cracked exposing the chip board underneath. This rendered cleaning ineffective. 6. The covering on the sofa in Seomra Réalt was ripped with foam exposed which does not allowed for adequate cleaning. Action submitted by the Registered Provider
Provider's corrective action:
- Infection Control: 1. Seomra Réalt are following the daily plan for hand hygiene that has been set out, making sure to not skip any steps. 2. Paper towels are now available in the bathroom. 3. The pink toilet seat has been discarded. 4. Lunch boxes are taken out of the school bags from the moment the children arrive and placed in the fridge. 5. The table has now been covered. 6. The couch has now been covered. Weekly and monthly checks will be carried out by staff on rotation
