Regulation 23 — Safeguarding health, safety and welfare of child
- General Safety: 1. The record of attendance in one care room did not accurately reflect the children in the room, this reduced the effective evacuation of children in the event of an emergency. For example. • At 11:22am it was identified by staff following discussion with the inspector that a child who was absent on the day was incorrectly signed in as being present. Action submitted by the Registered Provider
Provider's corrective action:
- General Safety: 1. In response to the non-compliance the service has stated that management held a meeting with each individual staff member, and relayed the importance of ensuring they are signing in the correct child. All staff members are asked to use a ruler to ensure the correct child is signed in. A new sign-in/sign-out sheet has been created, using one week per page, as current books have one month per page so there is less room for error
Regulation 25 — First aid
- A person trained in First Aid Responder (FAR) certification was not available to the children from 8 to 9am on the day of inspection. It is acknowledged that a staff member with paediatric first aid was on the premises during this time
Provider's corrective action:
- In response to the non-compliance the service has stated that the roster was changed so that there will be a member of staff with FAR training as well as someone with Paediatric First Aid on-site for the hour of 8am to 9am. In addition, four staff have been enrolled to the First Aid Responder course on top of their Paediatric First Aid courses. This is to ensure that in the event someone is out there will be cover for the hour in the mornings and at all times throughout the day
