Inspection of 28 May 2025 — Inspection Report

Regulation 9 — Management and recruitment

  • (2)(a) There were only one reference each available for 2 adults working at the service. A second written and validated reference was not available. (4) Three of the adults who worked directly with the pre-school children during the inspection did not hold an Early Childhood Care and Education qualification at a minimum of Level 5 on the National Framework of Qualifications or a qualification deemed by the Minister to be equivalent
Provider's corrective action:
  • (2)(a) All staff files have been updated ensuring that two validated references are in place on each file. The registered provider stated that the service will ensure all staff files are maintained up to date. (4) Two of the staff members are no longer working in the service. Evidence of qualification for the third staff member has been forwarded. The registered provider stated that all staff will have appropriate qualifications before hiring

Regulation 23 — Safeguarding health, safety and welfare of child

  • General Safety: • Garda vetting was available for twenty-seven adults employed by the service. However, three vetting disclosures were not dated within the previous three years in adherence with the Early Years Inspectorate Regulatory Notice. It is acknowledged that evidence of applications for renewal of Garda vetting on 29 May 2025 were submitted by the service. Action submitted by the Registered Provider
Provider's corrective action:
  • General Safety: Garda vetting for the staff members has been renewed and the service will ensure that all staff members garda vetting is up to date and dated in the previous three years, in adherence with the Early years inspectorate regulatory notice

Regulation 16 — Record in relation to pre-school service

  • (i) The staff roster detailed just the first name of each staff member. To identify who is working at the service each staff members full name is required. The roster did not detail the name of the person who covered breaks in each room when staff left the room for meal breaks. Relief staff did not sign in or out in the rooms when covering break times
Provider's corrective action:
  • The staff rosters were amended to include all details required

Regulation 23 — Safeguarding health, safety and welfare of child

  • Administration of Medication: To ensure the safety of all children, management need to have clear records of all medicines both prescription and over the counter that are on the premises at all times. Numerous bottles of antifebrile medication supplied by each child’s parents were stored in all rooms within the service. There were no records kept on the quantity of these medicines stored in the premises at any one time. The policy on the administration of medication stated that all unused medicines were returned to parents when not required. Action submitted by the Registered Provider
Provider's corrective action:
  • Administration of Medication: All medicines are now stored in a locked press. An accurate account of what medicines are stored on the premises at all times is maintained in writing
