Regulation 20 — Facilities for rest and play
- There was no comfortable soft seating available to children in the ECCE 1 & 2 room or the Toddler room for rest or relaxation. Children were observed to sit on the ground by the book area reading. It is acknowledged that a mat was available in ECCE 2 area, and the Toddler room. The deputy obtained some cushions during the inspection. The rest area needs further development to meet the needs of the children
Provider's corrective action:
- The following response was received from the registered provider: Corrective and Preventive Action New mats and cushions were added to the rest area. Additional mats and cushions will be added as required
Regulation 23 — Safeguarding health, safety and welfare of child
- Infection Control: The waste Bin in the ECCE 2 area of the care room did not have a pedal operated lid. A child was observed to handle the lid to dispose of waste and then returned to the table. This posed a risk of cross contamination and infection. Action submitted by the Registered Provider The following response was received from the registered provider:
Provider's corrective action:
- Infection Control: A new lidded pedal operated bin has been purchased. Hand hygiene has been discussed with children. The service will ensure lidded pedal operated bins are available and replaced where required
Regulation 27 — Supervision
- Four children sleeping on stackable beds in the toddler room were not adequately supervised at all times. Whilst staff were observed to be checking these children every ten minutes, children sleeping on stackable beds needs to be supervised at all times to ensure their safety
Provider's corrective action:
- The following response was received from the registered provider: Corrective and Preventive Action Management spoke with staff to ensure that staff remain with the children in the room while sleeping at all times
