Regulation 23 — Safeguarding health, safety and welfare of child

  • General Safety: 1. See Statutory Notice section in relation to Improvement Notice IN0901 served. Infection Control: 2. On their return indoors from playing in the outdoor play space, children were not supervised in handwashing, and the adults were not observed to wash their hands. The children were observed to access resources from the shelves to play with them. This poses a risk to staff and children in cross contamination and cross infection. Action submitted by the Registered Provider
Provider's corrective action:
  • General Safety: 1. To current the actions here, the service immediately contacted the parent in relation to the child’s medication. This medication is now onsite and will remain onsite in a labelled box out of reach of the children but easily accessible to staff. The service has created a new emergency action plan should the child present with any symptoms based on the information provided by the parent. This plan has been signed by the parent and manager, and all staff have reviewed the amended action plan. To prevent this in the future, should the service be informed of children requiring emergency medication on enrolment, parents will be contacted prior to their child starting. A detailed letter will be sent home to parents/guardians of any child who has listed illnesses on their enrolment forms prior to starting , this will include what we need in the way of a doctors letter , steps on administration of needed medication , spare medication for service to be kept there and procedure in the event of an emergency. Infection Control: 2. Following the inspection, the manager issued a reminder to staff in relation to the importance of washing hands after being in the yard /outside play. Staff had just forgotten the step as the inspection had just started and they were trying to get the children settled

Found compliant: Regulation 9, 10, 11, 19, 32.
