Infection control: 1. The children in the pre-school room did not wash their hands before eating their lunch. Regular hand washing is required at appropriate times during the day such as before eating to reduce the risk of children or staff acquiring illnesses through cross contamination. 2. Bins without lids and bins that were not ‘hands free’ or pedal operated were observed in the rooms throughout the service. Pedal-operated, lidded bins are required to be used in the service for the safe storage of rubbish or waste before it is removed from the rooms. Action submitted by the Registered Provider

Infection control: 1. Regular hand washing now takes place throughout the day. 2. New pedal operated bins are now installed throughout the service

Infection control: 1. The vinyl covered seats of two highchairs in Puddles room were split which made them difficult to clean effectively and therefore a potential source of infection. 2. There were no toilet roll holders for the toilet rolls in the sanitary accommodation areas used by the children in the Senior preschool rooms. The toilet rolls were left on top of the cistern or on the sink where they posed a potential risk of cross contamination. Action submitted by the Registered Provider
Provider's corrective action:
Infection control: 1. Highchairs were disposed of and replaced, in future when the seats start to split, the service will dispose of chair immediately. 2. New toilet roll holders in place. The service will ensure that there are toilet roll holders in each toilet
Found compliant: Regulation 9, 11, 15, 16, 19, 25, 28.
Immediate action notice. An immediate action notice was issued to the registered provider regarding risk identified under regulation 15. This notice was responded to by the registered provider who outlined the steps being taken to address the risk.
Regulation 9 — Management and recruitment
(2)(b)(c) On the day of inspection the staff file for the childcare student on work placement in the service was requested but was not available. The registered provider said that the student may have taken it home
Provider's corrective action:
The students file has been returned to the premises and in future all staff files will be held on the premises
Regulation 15 — Record of pre-school child
(1) The service did not maintain a written record of the following required information. (b) The date on which the child first attended the service, (c) The date on which the child ceased to attend the service, (e) Authorisation to collect the child, (f) Details of any illness, disability, allergy or special need of the child, together with all information relevant to the provision of special care or attention, (g) The name and telephone number of the child’s registered medical practitioner, (h) record of immunisations, (i) Written parental consent for appropriate medical treatment of the child in the event of an emergency. An immediate action notice (IAN) was issued to the registered provider on 21 March 2024 as a potential safety risk was identified in the failure to maintain the above information, in particular parts (e) and (i). The registered provider responded to the IAN as directed on 25 March 2024 including a sample of the registration forms that had been issued on that day to all parents of children attending the service. The registration forms included the required information

The service now maintains a written record of the following required information. (b) The date on which the child first attended the service, (c) The date on which the child ceased to attend the service, (e) Authorisation to collect the child, (f) Details of any illness, disability, allergy or special need of the child, together with all information relevant to the provision of special care or attention, (g) The name and telephone number of the child’s registered medical practitioner, (h) record of immunisations, (i) Written parental consent for appropriate medical treatment of the child in the event of an emergency Parents or guardians of children enrolling in the service will be required to complete the registration form before the child starts attending the service

Infection Control: Hand washing of the infants and younger children’s hands was not routinely carried out in Puddles room prior to mealtimes or after nappy changing. Administration of Medication: Signed parental consent to give medication had not been sought or received in relation to two medications present in the service on the day of inspection which were to be administered to children that day. Staff said that they had received a verbal request and instructions from parents only. The medication book for the service was not available to the inspector on request on the day of inspection.
