- (d) There was an area to the side of the premises storing broken toys and equipment, laths of wood and tyres. This area was untidy and could pose pest control issues

- The registered provider submitted a written response to advise that the area to the side of the premises has been cleared of broken toys, equipment, wood and tyres and this area will be checked regularly to ensure it is maintained appropriately

- (d) 1. The lid of the toilet cistern in the staff sanitary unit was missing and required replacement. 2. The tap at the wash hand basin in the Waddler room was broken and required replacement

- The service advised in writing that: Corrective and Preventive Action (d) 1. A new cistern lid was fitted securely and the toilet was checked to ensure that it is safe. 2. The broken tap in the waddler room was replaced by a tradesman. The new tap was tested after installation to ensure it is functioning correctly, provides safe water flow, and poses no risk to children or staff. To prevent recurrence of issues, a qualified plumber is to be contacted by staff immediately for any plumbing‑related maintenance concerns. All staff have been informed that plumbing issues must be reported on the same day using the maintenance log. The Person in Charge will arrange a plumber promptly

- (d) An area of plaster on the wall near the door to the outdoor area in the Full Day Care playroom was crumbling and required repair. (e) A second adult sanitary unit was required as there were now more than eight adults working in the service at one time

- The service advised in writing that: Corrective and Preventive Action (d) Area of plaster on the wall in the full day care room has been repaired. The walls will be monitored on a monthly basis and repaired if required. (e) The railings in the ability sanitary unit have been replaced and this unit is no longer ‘under repair’ and now suitable for use as a second sanitary unit to cater for the number of adults working in the service at one time. Any repairs to this sanitary unit will be done in a timely fashion to ensure that this unit remains in use for staff

- (29)(c) Room temperatures throughout the service were not maintained between the required care room temperatures of 18°C to 22°C. The temperatures ranged from 14.7°C to 15.5°C during the preschool session. This poses a risk to the children’s comfort levels within the room

- A temporary heater has been placed in the cloakroom to increase the room temperature. A mains operated heating unit will be installed to provide an additional heat source within the preschool room. The daily room temperature of the preschool room will be monitored and recorded

- (c) The mechanical ventilation system in a sanitary facility upstairs used by children from the Senior Toddler care-room appeared not to be functioning correctly with no audible sound from the system. (d) Two wash hand basins in a sanitary unit upstairs had heavy discoloration and scaling around the wastewater plughole posing difficulties to thoroughly clean the areas. (e) There was inadequate sanitary provision for children using the upstairs care-rooms during the inspection with 15 children using one nappy change area during the inspection. One nappy-changing unit is required for every 11 children in nappies

- The registered provider advised in writing that: Corrective and Preventive Action (c) The ventilation system in now operational. The ventilation system is now checked on a daily basis by the staff members. (d) The two wash-hand basins have been descaled. The sinks will be descaled on a monthly basis and the process added to the cleaning schedules. (e) A nappy changing table has been reinstalled providing two nappy changing units for the numbers of children. The service will ensure in future that there are adequate nappy changing facilities for the numbers of children in the service

- (d) 1. There was evidence of water damage and black discoloration in a corner of the playroom ceiling. The area required to be maintained/repaired. 2. The water that flowed from the warm water taps in the sanitary units was cold and ranged from 13.4°C- 13.9°C. The staff informed the inspector that the water heating boiler was broken and needed repairing

- (d) The registered provider advised in writing that: Corrective and Preventive Action 1. The service made immediate contact with a builder to come and assess the damage and to provide a work plan. It was agreed that repair work would be carried out during the midterm break. Hopefully this will not be a problem in the future as the tiles and ridge tiles have been replaced. 2. The registered provider made immediate contact with the plumber to come and install a boiler as arranged previously. The service will have the plumber to check the boiler on a regular basis

- (e) On the day of the inspection at times a maximum of 23 children were cared for in the Preschool 1 playroom. The 23 children had access to a sanitary unit with one cubicle containing a toilet and wash hand basin, and a second cubicle with a toilet, nappy changing unit and one wash hand basin. The sanitary provision allocated to the 23 children did not meet the regulatory requirements. The requirements are that there is one toilet and one wash-hand basin for every 11 toilet-trained early years children and that there is one nappy-changing unit, including a wash-hand basin and changing mat, for every 11 children in nappies

- The service advised in a written response that: Corrective and Preventive Action (e) Going forward the service will ensure to only care for 22 children in Preschool 1 playroom

The registered provider will submit evidence of the remaining painting work when completed. In future, the paintwork in the building will be checked on a regular basis

- A full paint of the classroom is due over the summer. Both staff and children’s toilets have been freshly painted but due to the scale of painting the large room it will not be done until the summer when the service is closed and availability of funds. Regular maintenance of the walls and using a satin paint which is easy wipe will help make the upkeep of the walls easier for staff

The service has ordered replacement linoleum which will be in place in the next one to two weeks. 2. New tape was placed on the area where the linoleum meets the tiles. The registered provider has put up a notice to remind staff to review these areas to ensure the tape is in good order
