The outdoor area had been used for storage of furniture, reducing the space available to the children to play safely. The person in charge stated that the children had not yet played outside this September. No outdoor play opportunities were organised for the children, during the inspection despite one child asking to play outside. Children need opportunities for outdoor play every day to ensure their social, cognitive gross and fine motor developmental needs are met - The outdoor area was cleared of stored furniture. Children will be given the choice to play outside each day 31 July 2025 ##### [Ray of Sunshine Morning and Afterschool](/creche/ray-of-sunshine-morning-and-afterschool-rathnew.md), Rathnew · Regulation 19 — Health, welfare and development of child - Basic Needs It is acknowledged that the Creche room was being decorated on the day of inspection and the children from that room were being accommodated in the Junior pre-school room. 1. The cosy area in the Junior pre-school room was not an inviting or suitably equipped area for the children in the room. There was only a cushion and a thin blanket in the cosy area and two children were observed trying to sit on the cushion at the same time, which could not accommodate them. The cosy area should be laid out in a way that encourages children to use the area should they need to rest or take a break from activities during their pre-school day. 2. The Junior pre-school room was not constructively planned to reflect clearly defined areas of interest and well-presented environments to provide a range of developmentally appropriate, challenging, diverse, creative and enriching experiences for the children. 3. On the day of inspection, no provision was made to move a selection of age-appropriate toys from the Creche to the Junior pre-school room, to meet the needs of the children who were using the room on that day - 1. The cozy corner area in the preschool junior room has been updated with a new colourful, mat and more cushions for the children for resting, weekly checks will take place in all of the classrooms by managers. 2. We have redone our classroom areas with more defined layouts for our cozy corner, dress up and construction areas. Weekly check ins will be done with all staff to ensure that they understand the non- compliances, will help prevent them in the future. 3. We have noted for the future if we are using a different room the different age groups to risk assess the rooms and bring in materials that are age appropriate 3 July 2025 ##### [Jolly Tots Creche](/creche/jolly-tots-creche-bray.md), Bray · Regulation 19 — Health, welfare and development of child - Physical and Material Environment On the day of inspection, while it is acknowledged that the children spent lots of time in the outdoor play area, the care room was not observed to be an inviting or engaging play space for the children attending the service. Materials were not displayed in a child centred manner and were not immediately available to children. There were a limited number of age-appropriate toys available to the children. The pre-school room did not have clear areas of interest and equipment was not laid out to promote the emergent interests of the children. There was no clearly defined space for children to rest and relax. There were no books available to the children and the environment did not reflect the group of children who attend the service such as displaying a family wall, birthday wall or their artwork - New artwork/Family wall/Pecs were added to the crèche walls both inside and out. Age appropriate books and books of interest were added to a low accessible shelf. Rest spaces were re-established. The manager spoke with the team around the need for age/stage appropriate materials and enforced the daily schedule to include all materials being accessible until the end of the daily session even if the children play outside. In the future, staff will ensure that both indoor and outdoor environments are inviting and fully equipped with age/stage appropriate materials that are changed weekly. There will be a continuous review of the child development policy at monthly team meetings and staff will discuss what is working well and what needs to be adjusted 3 July 2025 ##### [Saran Wood Creche and Montessori School](/creche/saran-wood-creche-and-montessori-school-bray.md), Bray · Regulation 19 — Health, welfare and development of child - Basic need 1. At 10.35am the children in the Toddler room were served their snacks directly on to the table they were sitting at. Snack time is important in establishing a child’s predictable mealtime routine which should include having meals and snacks served on plates. It is also important in developing independent practices involving children, for example setting a table before snack time and cleaning up after themselves following same. 2. At 10.45am a child in the Toddler room requested more food at snack time. The snack consisted of some apple slices and two crackers, but the child was not given any more food. Additional food should always be available to young children should they request it. It is recognised that children attending the service early in the morning are offered breakfast and that the part-time children were going to be given lunch at 12 midday - 1. It is acknowledged that individual plates should always be provided for the fruit snack being served at snack time. The children will be encouraged to clean up when finished at snack time. 2. We provide 3 meals during our 6-hour session. Breakfast, snack and lunch. Kitchen staff have been informed to increase the snack portion and serve at an earlier time of 10 am for the toddler group 26 June 2025 ##### [Cocoon Childcare- Blessington](/creche/cocoon-childcare-blessington-blessington.md), Blessington · Regulation 19 — Health, welfare and development of child - On the day of inspection, all six pre -school rooms were not seen to be inviting or engaging play space s for the children attending the service. Materials were not displayed in a child centred manner. There were a limited number of age -appropriate toys available to the children in the rooms and props were missing from the activity tables preventing the development of play. The pre-school rooms did not have clear areas of interest and equipment were not laid out to promote the emergent interests of the children - All care rooms were refreshed and enhanced interest areas were developed to support the emergent interests of all children. The centre management team has been expanded to include a second assistant manager and supervisor. To support high quality care, the management team will conduct monthly room audits to ensure that learning environments are engaging and reflect the interests of all children 11 April 2025 ##### [LMNO Childcare Ltd](/creche/lmno-childcare-ltd-bray.md), Bray · Regulation 19 — Health, welfare and development of child - On the day of inspection, the inspectors observed the care needs of a child not being met by the adults in the service. The child was displaying visible signs of hunger and these ques were not being observed or acted upon by the adults present. The inspectors asked the manager to give more food to the child, they did so, and the child’s behaviour improved dramatically. This happened, despite the adults having recorded in a journal that on several occasions, that the child has arrived, in the morning to the service hungry and with additional care needs. No care plan had been put into place to meet the specific needs of the child. Service providers have a duty of care, where possible, to meet the individual needs of the children in their care - Attached is an account to provide context regarding this child. On the day of inspection, the Playgroup room was not an inviting or engaging play space, materials were not displayed in a child centred manner. There were a limited number of age-appropriate toys available to the children in the room and props were missing from the activity table preventing the development of play. T he Big Monti room did not have clear areas of interest and equipment was not laid out to promote the emergent interests of the children. 2. The library area in the Big Monti room was insufficiently stocked with books for the number of children in the room. There were five books available , some of which were visibly damaged, for 20 children in the room. This limited the choice for children wishing to engage in reading books. 3. The Playgroup room did not have a suitable cosy area for the children to use, should they require a rest during their day - 1. The Playgroup room is now an inviting and engaging play space. There is a dress up area, home corner, construction area, puzzle shelves, music & imaginative play shelves, sensory table, small play area and art shelves. The Big Montessori room shelves are now open for the full 3 hours of the ECCE session. Montessori shelves will be left open when the children are having snack and preparing to go home i.e. for the full 3 hours. The Playgroup teacher will ensure that there are adequate materials and toys accessible to the children at all times. 2. The library in the Big Montessori room has been restocked with plenty of books. The library will be reviewed weekly to ensure enough books for all children. 3. The Playgroup room’s cosy area has added teddies and cushions and is located at our library for quiet time. The Playgroup teacher will ensure that there is always soft teddies and cushions in the cosy area 21 November 2024 ##### [Cois Cairn Community Playgroup](/creche/cois-cairn-community-playgroup-bray.md), Bray · Regulation 19 — Health, welfare and development of child - The children attending the service on the day of inspection were not afforded the opportunity to go outdoors to play during their morning - The children couldn’t go outside due to the moss on the playground. We have employed a company to power wash the playground, so this doesn’t happen again. The caretaker will carry out inspections of the playground weekly and the staff will inspect it daily. We are purchasing a power washer for use by the caretaker to prevent this in the future 16 November 2022 ##### [Enniskerry Pre-school](/creche/enniskerry-pre-school-enniskerry.md), Enniskerry · Regulation 19 — Health, welfare and development of child - 1. Drinking water was not available to the children at all times. The children’s water was stored in the children’s bags in the hallway. 2. The temperature of the sanitary area was below the recommended temperature of 18˚C- 22˚C to ensure the comfort of the children. The temperature recorded was 13.4 ˚C which was too cold. An effective method to increase the temperature in this area was not immediately available - 1. Drinking water – children’s drink bottles are now taken from their bags and put in the room at the water station, to drink when needed 2. The temperature in the sanitary area, the storage heater in the hallway had not been switched on. It was not effective till the next day as they operate at night storage. Summary Comment The actions and photographic evidence received by the Registered Provider have been considered by the Inspectorate.
