Regulation 9 — Management and recruitment
- (2) (a)(b) Two validated references from past employers or a reputable were not available on file for two adults working in the premises. (3) The correct vetting procedures specified in paragraph (2) where not carried out prior to any person being appointed, assigned or allowed access to or contact with a child attending the pre-school service. (4) One adult working in the service was unable to provide evidence that they had obtained an award in Early Childhood Care and Education at level 5 on the National Qualifications Framework or equivalent
Provider's corrective action:
- The registered provider stated the following in their reply: Corrective and Preventive Action The required references were obtained. A letter was requested from the department recognising the staff members qualifications
Regulation 21 — Equipment and materials
- The Preschool playroom, ECCE, Wobbler and Toddler playrooms were not supplied with adequate materials to support children’s play and learning. There were not enough toys and equipment available to the children to provide rich and varied environment for the children to play. For example: 1. The play kitchen areas were poorly stocked with accessories; one the kitchen unit doors were broken and it was void of toys. 2. The dress up clothes were not available to the children at all times. They were stored in the corridor and the children did not have access to them throughout the inspection. The children were asked by the inspector if they liked dressing up and the children in the Toddler room all answered “Yes” but the children were not given access to the dress up costumes throughout the session. 3. The books in the library areas were in poor condition, many were ripped and torn. A child in the Preschool room was heard asking a staff member for a book, that was stored in a high shelf out of the children’s reach. The staff informed the inspector that he was looking or his favourite book that was stored out of the children’s reach. 4. The dolls houses were void of any suitable furniture or toy accessories. The dolls that the children could use to play with, were stored in a plastic box that was stored nearby, however these dolls were presented in a poor condition. 5. Puzzles and games were stored out of the children’s reach, a young child in the preschool room was observed asking a staff member for a jigsaw puzzle that was stored on a very high shelf. There were only 2 puzzles on a low-level shelf for the children to play with. 6. There were four “cause and effect” toys in the Wobbler room that were not working
Provider's corrective action:
- The registered provider stated the following in their reply Corrective and Preventive Action All educators have provided lists of items that need to be replaced in the playrooms. These items will be purchased by Management. The statement from the registered provider was accepted. Summary Comment The inspector has reviewed the actions and the evidence submitted, the noncompliances identified under regulation 21 have been adequately addressed. This regulation will be reviewed at the next inspection
