General Safety: 1. The water in the following children’s wash hand basins had water temperature readings above 43°C: ▪ The water temperature in the three wash hand basins in the sanitary facilities and one in the care room which were accessible to the children from the Junior Active Cubs Room were recorded at 47°C. ▪ The water temperature in the two wash hand basins in the sanitary facilities and one in the care room which were accessible to the children from the Junior Active Cubs 1 Room were recorded between 45.5°C and 45.7°C. ▪ The water temperature in the wash hand basin in the nappy changing facility and the one in the playroom which was accessible to the children from the Discovery room were recorded between 45°C and 45.6°C. The staff were advised in each of the playrooms and the children were observed by the inspector to use the cold water tap under the close supervision of staff to wash their hands on the day of inspection. For effective handwashing and to reduce the risk of scalding, children are required to wash their hands in warm water maintained at a temperature of below 43°C. Provider's corrective action:
General Safety: Corrective and Preventive Action In the written response, the service recorded that a Plumber was contacted on the day of the inspection and was asked to attend the service as soon as possible. He came to the service on 15th May 2026. In the days while the service waited for the plumber to review the water system and make the required adjustments, staff members closely monitored all handwashing that occurred and children used the cold water tap if the temperatures were above 43 degrees Celsius at any time. The plumber advised that he made some adjustments to the water pipes of the affected rooms. He undertook his own water testing and temperatures were within required limits for all his tests. Management will complete spot checks on thermostatically controlled hot water temperatures in wash hand basins located at child height to ensure they are recorded accurately. Management advised staff of the importance of monitoring water temperatures daily and reporting any inaccuracies to management was discussed with all team members

General Safety: 1. The water temperature in the three sinks in the sanitary facilities and one in the care room which were accessible to the children from the Junior Active Cubs room were recorded between 45°C and 45.6°C. The children were observed by the inspector to use the cold water tap to wash their hands on the day of inspection. For effective handwashing and to reduce the risk of scalding, children are required to wash their hands in warm water maintained at a temperature of below 43°C. The use of cold water can impede effective handwashing. Infection Control: 2. During observing nappy changing in the Explorers room, the inspector observed a staff member open the lidded bin with gloved hands and continuing to use these gloves during the nappy change. It was also noted that two children’s hand were not washed after nappy change, or the unit was not cleaned between use. This was at variance with the nappy changing policy. This posed an infection risk to the children. 3. Seven pedal operated bins in the service were noted to have lids missing or the pedals not working. General Safety: 1.The temperature of the water was adjusted by the maintenance personnel and is set to remain below 43°C. Water temperatures are recorded by the room leader twice daily. Staff ensure the children have an awareness of good hygiene practices and encourage the use of warm water for handwashing. Policies were discussed at the last quarterly meeting. Infection control: 2. A review of the nappy changing policy was completed with all room leaders and discussed with the staff at the quarterly meeting. A poster of nappy changing task analysis was displayed in each nappy changing room and the staff were encouraged to follow it. 3. Bins were ordered for the service and faulty bins were disposed of. All the bins in the service were checked and further bins will be ordered when needed

Infection Control: 1. One nappy changing mat in the Discovers room was noted to be fraying at the seam and this may impede cleaning and lead to the spread of infection. Action submitted by the Registered Provider
Provider's corrective action:
Infection Control: 1. The registered provider advised in the CAPA response that there was a spare changing mat on the premises and the mat was replaced on the 09.02.2024. More spare changing mats will be on premises as replacements as needed. Staff were reminded of importance of notifying management if any equipment needs replacing in a team meeting
Regulation 29 — Premises
(c) On the day of inspection, high room temperatures were recorded in two care rooms. • A temperature of 24.7°C was noted at 10.52am in the Explorers 1 room. The temperature was rechecked in the Explorers 1 room at 4.50pm and was recorded at 22.7°C. • A temperature of 22.9°C was noted in the Active Cubs 1 room at 11am. A temperature of 23.2°C was recorded in the Active Cubs 1 room at 3pm. • These morning and afternoon temperatures were above the required range of 18-22°C for care rooms. It is noted and acknowledged that staff were recording the room temperatures and opening doors/windows to monitor and address this issue. (d) Poor maintenance of painted walls was noted in two care rooms, the Explorers, and Active Cubs 1. The paintwork was observed to be chipped and peeling particularly at the lower wall level and around doors. It is acknowledged that the person in charge had a prior record of this on the maintenance list for the service

(c) The registered provider advised the following in their CAPA response: that a maintenance person came to adjust heating on 09.02.2024 and reduced the temperature. A specialist came on 28.02.2024 to zone the building and label thermostats for ease of temperature adjustment. Management met with the teams in both rooms to discuss importance of recording and reporting on the day if room temp is reading over 22 degrees Celsius and staff will continue to open windows and doors when temperatures begin to rise and put measures in place to reduce heat once the room temp is rising. (d) The scheduled painting the rooms due on 2nd and 3rd of March, was identified on an internal Maintenance List in January and has been completed
