Regulation 9 — Management and recruitment
- (2)(a), (b) Two written references provided for one adult were unsuitable as they were not from the most recent employer or an appropriate professional source
Provider's corrective action:
- (2)(a), (b) The adult whose references were not accepted was an external music teacher. The external company was able to provide us with additional references. Recruitment will not accept this type of reference from external contactors moving forward
Regulation 23 — Safeguarding health, safety and welfare of child
- General Safety: 1. In the Apple drops room nails were protruding from the wall at children’s level posing a potential injury risk if a child ran into them. 2. In the Apple drops sanitary area the toilet seat was loose on its mount posing a potential injury risk. Safe Sleep: 3. In the Jellytots room three children under 2 years of age were placed to sleep on stackable beds rather than in a standard cot or floor bed as per safe sleep guidance for children under 2 years. Regulation 29 — Premises
- (d) The registered provider did not ensure the service was adequately cleaned, maintained and repaired as required as detailed below. 1. In the Butterflies and Jellytots room inspectors observed that the base of the ball pool had not been cleaned in accordance with the service’s cleaning policy. Visible dust, debris, and dirt were present. Staff advised that the ball pool is cleaned on a weekly basis; however, the cleaning policy requires daily cleaning. This practice is not consistent with the service’s stated procedures and presents a potential infection control risk. 2. In the sanitary area of the Butterflies, Appledrops and Rascals rooms the laminate surface on the cupboards was peeling off, creating areas that could not be cleaned effectively and therefore posed a potential infection control risk. 3. In the Appledrops room the loft playhouse and was not maintained as required paint was chipped off the banister and ladder. 4. The Rascals room was not cleaned and maintained as required as evidenced by. • In the sanitary area there was a build-up of dirt and debris under the nappy changing mat. There was evidence of grime around the taps in handwash basins used by the children. The walls, skirting boards, the lid of the pedal bin and doors were heavily stained with visible dirt. In the corners of the floor in the nappy changing room there was a heavy layer of dust visible and tissues discarded on the floor. • There was a sticky residue from tape observed on the window sill. • The door to the kitchenette and nappy room were chipped and heavily stained with dirt and food residue. There was a build-up of dust on top of the skirting board. • There was a build-up of dust, dirt and debris and debris behind furniture and equipment around the care room. • Some of the children’s chairs were heavily stained and discoloured. 4. In the Jellytots room the partition at the edge of the changing area and the area around handwash sink was chipped and could not be cleaned effectively. 5. In the sanitary area used by the Jellytots room the hand wash basin was found to be clogged and not draining properly
Provider's corrective action:
- 1. Ball pool was emptied, hoovered and cleaned. Ball pool will be emptied and hoovered and wiped out every second day. 2. Prior to the inspection it had been agreed that the Sanitary areas in Butterflies, Appledrops and Rascals are to be replaced this year. We are awaiting on contractor dates. Sanitary areas will be maintained moving forward. 3. The loft playhouse has been repainted. 4. Rascals room and sanitary area was cleaned on the evening of the inspection, and a professional deep clean of the room and sanitary area was done in the following days to include walls, skirtings, window sill, doors and floors. Bins were replaced. New chairs have been ordered. Cleaning checklists to be adhered to. Team retrained on this. Daily checks by management will be completed according to the Manager daily checklist. 5. Sink professionally unclogged. Drains annually maintained
