To comply with established nutritional standards for extended hours, a daily hot meal must be served to children attending during extended hours. There was no documented menu plan available to demonstrate how the service intended to meet these nutritional requirements - The service developed a revised menu plan which included an option of a freshly prepared meal for the children who attend for the extended hours each day ##### Regulation 29 — Premises - (b) The storage of cleaning materials within the sanitary facilities was observed during the inspection. This practice presents a significant risk of cross-contamination and compromises infection control protocols. Sanitary areas are high-risk environments for the spread of pathogens, and storing cleaning equipment in these spaces can inadvertently facilitate the transfer of bacteria and viruses to other parts of the premises. All cleaning equipment and agents were not stored in a dedicated, secure location away from children and hygiene-sensitive areas to ensure safety. It is essential that sanitary accommodations are used exclusively for their intended purpose and are not utilised for general storage (c) Evidence of mould was observed on the painted surfaces within the disability access bathroom. Mould growth compromises indoor air quality and can trigger respiratory issues for children. (d) The timber flooring in both preschool rooms was found to be in a state of disrepair, characterised by excessive wear and visible gaps between floorboards and at the wall junctions. This poses a risk to health and hygiene. Compromised flooring surfaces create gaps that trap dust, dirt, and organic matter, facilitating the growth of bacteria and making effective cleaning impossible. These structural defects present potential trip hazards and could lead to splinter injuries for children playing on the floor. It is acknowledged that remedial work to replace the flooring commenced on the afternoon of the inspection - (b) All cleaning equipment and materials were removed from the sanitary accommodation areas, and a new designated storage facility was created in an alternative location. These materials were safely stored out of reach of children and away from hygiene sensitive areas. (c) Wall areas where there was evidence of mould were treated and all areas were repainted. Regular checks throughout the premises were scheduled to ensure all areas were checked for evidence of mould or dampness. (d) New floor covering was applied to both Preschool rooms in the premises Found compliant: Regulation 9, 11, 25, 26, 28. #### Inspection of 20 March 2024 — Inspection Report Full report (PDF, Tusla) ##### Regulation 15 — Record of pre-school child - (c) A designated space to record the date on which the child ceased to attend the service was not provided on the children’s registration forms that were sampled and reviewed. (h) Record of immunisations received by the children was not completed on 2 of the 10 registration forms that were sampled and reviewed - (c) The registration forms for all preschool children have been amended and the provision to record the date each child ceases to attend the service has been included. (h) The record of the immunisations received by all children has been updated on all the relevant forms ##### Regulation 16 — Record in relation to pre-school service - (h)Details of attendance by each pre-school child was not filled out on the day of the inspection. The children were not signed in as they arrived on the morning of the inspection. (i)Details of staff rosters were not completed on the day of the inspection - (h) Attendance records are completed each day as children arrive and leave the premises. (i) Staff rosters are maintained on a weekly basis ##### Regulation 19 — Health, welfare and development of child - BASIC NEEDS: A nappy changing unit was located in Preschool room 2. A timber partition partially obscured this area of the room but did not afford the necessary privacy for the children during nappy changing - The nappy changing unit has been removed from Preschool Room 2 ##### Regulation 23 — Safeguarding health, safety and welfare of child - Infection Control: There was no hand washing facility available next to the nappy changing unit in Preschool room 2. To ensure adequate infection control, nappy changing facilities must be located next to handwashing facilities. Action submitted by the Registered Provider - Infection Control: Nappy changing has been relocated to the disability access bathroom, which has hand washing facilities adjacent.
