On the day of inspection, the children were observed drinking fruit juices, crisps and eating dairy foods which had a high sugar content. This is not in keeping with the healthy eating policy in the service which promotes healthy eating among the children

Provider's corrective action:

Snack Time: Following the inspection, Teanga Beo has implemented immediate changes to ensure that only nutritious and suitable foods are provided to children in line with Regulation 22. From 13/10/2025, the service will provide sandwiches and fresh fruit daily for snack time. Snacks or lunchboxes from home will no longer be accepted to ensure consistency with our Healthy Eating Policy. Only water and milk are now offered to children throughout the day. A parent letter was issued on 10/10/2025 informing all families of these changes and the rationale behind them. Dinner Time: Teanga Beo are upgrading the main meal provision to enhance nutrition and variety. The service will now avail of Early Days Foods, an approved provider of healthy hot meals for early years settings. This initiative received Board approval in early November 2025, and are currently purchasing the necessary equipment to support safe storage and serving of meals

Infection Control: 1. During the inspection, perishable items contained in the children’s lunch boxes were not refrigerated prior to lunch time, posing the risk of gastrointestinal illness. The healthy eating policy in the service confirms lunches with perishable items are stored in the fridge as per food safety guidelines. Action submitted by the Registered Provider

Provider's corrective action:

Infection Control: Lunches from home are no longer accepted. All meals are now prepared and stored on-site to ensure correct handling of perishable items and full compliance with food safety and HACCP requirements

(k) Ten accidents and incident records were sampled on the day of inspection. 1 Eight of the records had inadequate identifying information which included: • No surname or date of birth on 3 records. • No date of birth on a further 5 records. 2. The date when the accident or incident occurred was not recorded on 2 records. 3. There was no parental or guardian signature on 3 records to confirm they were aware that an accident or incident had taken place

Provider's corrective action:

The manager has made the children’s full names and dates of birth easily accessible to staff so they will have the information needed to record going forward. The manager is to review all written reports before signing off. Staff and the manager undertook training on 18 September 2023 on filling out the accident report book to prevent any further misinformation or non-recorded information

Infection Control: 1. The nappy changing procedure observed was ineffective for preventing cross contamination. Two different staff members were observed wearing the same gloves for the entire nappy changing procedure. 2.The children did not wash their hands after using the toilet and before mealtimes which can increase the risk of infection. Action submitted by the Registered Provider

Provider's corrective action:

Infection Control: 1. The nappy changing procedure was amended on13 September 2023 to remove gloves before putting on clean nappy. Staff were given training on the new procedure on 14 September 2023. 2. Training for staff on infection control was carried out on 15 September 2023. Training focused particularly on handwashing and the times when this should be undertaken by children and staff

(d) There was no hot water in the sinks in either care room or in the sanitary facilities on the day of inspection. The person in charge confirmed the boiler stopped working the day before the inspection

Provider's corrective action:

On the day prior to the inspection the manager had called an external company to report the issues and asked for an emergency call out. The boiler was fixed on the afternoon of the inspection 13 September 2023
