Longford): what Tusla inspections found — 3 published inspection(s), non-compliances and the provider's corrective actions. ## StepByStep Sessional · 0 - 6 Years · Killoe, Longford · Tusla ID **TU2015LD016** · Registered since 1 January 2026 An inspection records what inspectors saw **on one day**; services respond with corrective actions — [how to read this](/methodology.md). #### Inspection of 10 March 2026 — Inspection Report Full report (PDF, Tusla) ##### Regulation 9 — Management and recruitment - (2)(d) Police vetting was not available for one adult who had resided outside the state for a period of longer than 6 consecutive months whose records were reviewed - (2)(d) The staff member was engaged on a once off emergency cover basis to maintain ratios and is no longer working in the service. We have reviewed recruitment practices ##### Regulation 23 — Safeguarding health, safety and welfare of child - General Safety: 1. Garda vetting was available for eleven staff members. However, two vetting disclosures were not dated within the previous three years in adherence to with the Early Years Inspectorate Regulatory Notice ‘EYI -RN12.3 Renewal of Garda Vetting’. Infection Control: 2. Nappy changes were observed on the day of inspection. On all occasions, the adult did not remove their apron following the bagging up of the soiled nappy and removal of used gloves. Soiled nappies used aprons and used disposable gloves need to be disposed of at the same time following removal of the old nappy. Administration of Medication: 3. There was no documentary evidence that the health care plans for children requiring medication to be administered for a health condition had been regularly reviewed and updated. Action submitted by the Registered Provider - General Safety: 1. The Garda vetting renewal documents are now on file. There is a tracking system on the service App. Reminders will be sent to staff to complete Garda Vetting links within the required timeframe going forward. Infection Control: 2. Nappy changing procedures have been reviewed with all staff. Ongoing supervision and regular checks will be carried out to ensure practice is consistently maintained. Administration of Medication: 3. Where any child has a diagnosis of allergies, etc an up -to-date health care plan will be in place and regularly reviewed to ensure compliance . Parents will be reminded to ensure the service is updated with relevant information as required ##### Regulation 25 — First aid - (1) A staff member present trained in in first aid response (FAR) and immediately available to the children attending the service was not present on the day of the inspection. It is acknowledged that staff members trained in paediatric first aid were working on the day of the inspection - (1) Another fulltime member of staff has since completed FAR training to ensure cover in place at all times in case a staff member has to be absent due to unforeseen circumstances. A fulltime staff member has completed FAR in full on Thursday 02/04/26 Found compliant: Regulation 11, 24, 26, 27, 28. #### Inspection of 7 November 2024 — Inspection Report Full report (PDF, Tusla) ##### Regulation 23 — Safeguarding health, safety and welfare of child - General Safety: 1. Garda vetting was available for fourteen staff members. However, one of these vetting disclosures was not dated within the previous three years and were not in adherence with the Early Years Inspectorate Regulatory Notice ‘EYI-RN12.3 Renewal of Garda Vetting’. Fire Safety: 2. It was noted from the assessment of the fire records that the fire drills are not carried out on a monthly basis with four fire drills recorded in 2024 and the most recent fire drill recorded on the 8th of October 2024 . It is recommended that fire drills are carried out on a monthly basis to ensure the children are familiar with the procedure in event of an emergency. Action submitted by the Registered Provider - The designated person in charge submitted a written response on 7th of January to the office of the early years inspectorate to advise General Safety: 1.This person has moved employment since inspection. If this staff member is employed in the future, the garda vetting disclosure will be renewed. The staff files will be checked by management to ensure all information is available and within date. Fire Safety: 2.Fire drills are now carried out monthly and a record is maintained of same on the software application. The staff have been reminded of the requirement to carry out monthly fire drills at the staff meetings ##### Regulation 25 — First aid - (1) On the day of the inspection, there was no evidence provided to ensure a person trained in first aid for children was available to the children at all times. Subsequent to the inspection on 13th of November, the manager submitted evidence of one person’s certificate of paediatric first aid training. This certification does not meet the requirements of the regulation - The designated person in charge submitted a written response on 7th of January 2025 to the office of the early year’s inspectorate to advise: A senior fulltime staff member is booked for First Aid Response Training over 3 full days. The First Aid response training is due to be completed on 21st, 28th of January and 4th February 2025 Found compliant: Regulation 9, 11, 19, 22, 26, 28, 29. #### Inspection of 4 October 2023 — Inspection Report Full report (PDF, Tusla) ##### Regulation 9 — Management and recruitment - (2)(d) One staff member who had worked outside the jurisdiction for longer than 6 consecutive months, while over the age of 18 years, did not have the required police vetting - The registered provider submitted a written response to state the application for police vetting commenced on the 6th of October and was approved on 1st of November 2023 ##### Regulation 29 — Premises - (e)There was an insufficient number of adult toilets and designated wash hand basins. The regulation requires that one toilet and one wash hand basin should be provided for every eight staff.
