Regulation 23 — Safeguarding health, safety and welfare of child

  • General Safety: Although it is acknowledged Garda vetting disclosures were available for all adults employed to work in the service, the service did not demonstrate compliance with the Early Years Inspectorate Regulatory Notice requiring services to renew Garda vetting every three years for one adult employed. Action submitted by the Registered Provider
Provider's corrective action:
  • General Safety: The staff member has received their renewed Garda vetting disclosure. The service recruitment manager has implemented a system to notify management of upcoming Garda vetting renewals within 2 months of the expiry date. The centre manager will also check on a quarterly basis if any staff members Garda vetting will expire

Regulation 11 — Staffing levels

  • An adequate number of adults were not working directly with the pre -school children attending the Montessori room on the morning of inspection as the minimum ratio of adults to children was not maintained at all times, as outlined below under (2) . It is acknowledged that once this was brought to the attention of the operations manager, an additional staff member was placed into the Montessori room
  • The registered provider did not ensure that the minimum ratio of adults to children was maintained in the service throughout the day of inspection as follows: - Staff members confirmed that the service currently provides full day care only. An insufficient number of adults were available to the children who were all attending on a full day care basis in the Montessori on the day of inspection. From 10:18am to 11:15am, two adults were observed caring for twenty-one children aged three to four years. The required minimum adult to child ratio is 1:8
Provider's corrective action:
  • Another staff member was immediately directed to the Montessori room to work and continued to work there with two other staff members for the day. All management and staff have been retrained to ensure the correct ratios are met at all times throughout the day and that sessional ratios are not used anymore as the service provides full day care only

Regulation 9 — Management and recruitment

  • (4) One staff member who was employed to work with the pre -school children did not have a major award in Early Childhood Care and Education at Level 5 on the National Framework for Qualifications
Provider's corrective action:
  • (4) The staff member was removed from the service on the 6th of September 2024 and will not return. The recruitment manager will ensure all staff have their full relevant qualification before joining the team. The manager and area manager will oversee the staff members profile before they commence

Regulation 23 — Safeguarding health, safety and welfare of child

  • General Safety: 1. Trailing flexes from fans were observed in Toddler 1, 2 and the PreMontessori rooms. In the Montessori room a long cable had come out of its broken casing. These flexes and cable posed potential safety risks to children. Action submitted by the Registered Provider
Provider's corrective action:
  • General Safety: 1. The manager will ensure to check all cables when completing their risk assessments and report it to the maintenance man immediately. The maintenance man arrived onsite on the 06/09/2024 and secured the wires with a casing attached to the wall. The wire and broken casing was removed from Montessori as it was no longer required
