For further information please refer to ##### Regulation 23 — Safeguarding health, safety and welfare of child - General Safety: The hot water temperatures at the wash hand basin in the disability bathroom was recorded at 53°C. This posed an immediate risk of scalding. Water must be thermostatically controlled to a maximum temperature of 43 °C for children’s and staff to use safely. This was brought to the attention of the person in charge and an immediate action notice was issued onsite. The registered in a correspondence received into the Early Years Inspectorate on the 4th of June 2024 stated that the issue had been addressed. The water temperature was reduced to 43°C. Action submitted by the Registered Provider - General Safety: The registered provider has stated in the response that: The hot water is now thermostatically controlled to ensure the temperature remains below 43°C. Water temperature checks will be added to the daily health and safety checks for the service Found compliant: Regulation 9, 11, 19. #### Inspection of 14 December 2023 — Inspection Report Full report (PDF, Tusla) ##### Regulation 23 — Safeguarding health, safety and welfare of child - Infection Control: 1.Two staff members were observed in the nappy changing facility not to wash their hands prior to commencing nappy changing. This was at variance with the nappy changing policy which stated that ‘hands were washed prior to putting on the gloves’. 2. The children’s hands were not washed after their nappies were changed. This increases the risk of cross infection. Action submitted by the Registered Provider - Infection Control: The registered provider stated in the corrective action form that: 1.The staff completed a refresher training in the nappy changing policy for the service and they also did a work shop on the management of infection control and preventing cross infection in a preschool setting. 2.The staff will ensure that the babies, wobblers and toddlers have access to hand washing at the appropriates times throughout the day. Summary Comment The actions as stated by the registered provider in relation to the non-compliances identified under Regulation 23 Infection control have been adequately addressed.
