Regulation 23 — Safeguarding health, safety and welfare of child
- General Safety 1. The service did not take effectiv e measures to ensure that all potential access points to the service were appropriately secured. While it was noted that the main entrance to the service was secured, potential access could be obtained through the main entrance door to the multi-use premises and an internal door to the care room. This increased the risk of unauthorised access to the service. Administration of Medication 2. The service did not take effective measures to ensu re that the required emergency medication for two children was available at all times while the children were in attendance. Information was provided by children’s parents regarding the procedure to follow, and medication to administer prior to requiring emergency medication was available within the service. However, the actual emergency medication was not present. It is acknowledged that the service mitigated the risk through obtaining the medication prior to the children attending the next day
Provider's corrective action:
- 1. The service will ensure that the internal door is locked du ring the Naíonra session and when the service exit to leave the room to go to the play area the internal door is once again locked ensuring that no access to the room is gained. The serv ice have spoken with the hal l committee and the main door is locked (during service hours only) as well as the internal door which is locked at all times ensuring that no access is being gained from external parties at all times. The service will ensure that the main door and interna l doors are locked during the service times. 2. The children’s medication is in the service daily. The educators have re-read the servicesmedication policy and will request any medications be stored in the service from the day a child begins in the service from now on. The staff members will sit with parents and go through th e medication policy with them once the service are aware a child has any medical requirements so that everyone is aware of the importance of this
