The children’s need for rest and relaxation during the session was not met. There was no allocated area in the playroom available and furnished with soft furnishings - The service has provided a soft resting area for the children by applying cushions and a mat in the reading corner which will allow the children sit and relax in comfort ##### Regulation 23 — Safeguarding health, safety and welfare of child - General Safety: 1. There were phone charger cables, a radio cable and a laminator cable accessible to the children in the playroom posing a risk of injury. 2. There were 2 fire doors with low level turn locks installed in the playroom since the last inspection. The doors opened into an unsecured hall, a working kitchen where meals are cooked, an adult toilet, to an openable fire door that opened out to the roadway and to the entrance /reception area where the doors to the building were unsecured and opened onto the roadway posing a risk of injury to children. 3. There were open plastic bags accessible to children on low-level shelving in the sanitary accommodation posing a risk of injury to children. Infection Control: 4. Some of the children’s spare clothes were not stored in sealed containers/bags on the open shelving in the sanitary accommodation posing a risk of cross infection. 5. There were floor brushes, mops and buckets and staff coats stored in the sanitary accommodation posing a risk of cross infection. Action submitted by the Registered Provider - General Safety: 1. The phone charger cables, the radio cable and the laminator cable have been removed and are no longer accessible to the children. The cables have been secured in a place that children will be unable to access them going forward. 2. The two fire doors have now been secured with an alarm on top of each of the doors to prevent the children leaving the room un-noticed while the session is in progress. 3. The plastic bags have been removed from the room, the staff have been notified to avoid the use of plastic bags in the room going forward for the safety of the children. Plastic bags are no longer allowed in the classroom. There is a child lock applied to the cupboards to avoid children accessing the cupboards in the service. Infection Control: 4. All the children attending the service have spare clothing stored in individually labelled plastic containers to avoid any cross contamination in the service. Going forward, the staff will ensure that this practice is continued. 5. The labelled mops and the brushes have been removed and placed in a storeroom located in the hallway in the building to avoid any cross contamination ##### Regulation 29 — Premises - (d) 1. The doors of the cupboards under the 2 sinks in the sanitary accommodation were not closing properly. 2. The water supply at the 3 wash hand basins in the sanitary accommodation was observed to be not instantaneous on occasions during the inspection. The person in charge informed the inspector this has been an ongoing issue - (d) 1. The cupboard doors now have child locks in place; the doors are closing fully so as children have no access to them. The cupboards will be locked daily to ensure that the children have no access. 2. The water flow has now increased to the 3 wash hand basins after recent work was carried out on the water supply in the area Found compliant: Regulation 9, 11, 22, 25. #### Inspection of 8 November 2023 — Inspection Report Full report (PDF, Tusla) ##### Regulation 9 — Management and recruitment - (2) Police vetting was not provided in respect of 1 adult who worked directly with the children - The Development Officer stated that: - Corrective and Preventive Action The staff member has applied for this police vetting ##### Regulation 23 — Safeguarding health, safety and welfare of child - General Safety: 1. There was a paper shredder accessible to the children on the floor in the playroom near the adult desk posing a risk of injury to children. Action submitted by the Registered Provider The development officer stated that: - - General Safety: The shredder is now located in an external room to the Naíonra, it is not accessible to the children ##### Regulation 26 — Fire safety measures - (1)(b) There was no record provided in respect of the maintenance of the smoke alarm - The development officer stated that: - Corrective and Preventive Action The paperwork in relation to the smoke alarms was forwarded to the early years inspectorate.
