##### Regulation 23 — Safeguarding health, safety and welfare of child

- General Safety: 1. Inconsistent records were maintained for a child aged 17 months who was asleep in the designated sleep room. At 12.16pm the inspector observed 3 recordings at 5-minute intervals 11.55, 12.00 and 12.05pm for the child. The staff and three children were in the dining room at this time. On the staffs return to the playroom at 12.36pm no sleep check was carried out or recorded since 12.05pm. The staff members were questioned and stated they were unable to check the children every 5 mins as stated on the sleep records. At 12.40pm a staff member checked on the sleeping child, but no record was maintained following review. At 13.58pm no sleep check record had been maintained since. - At 13.58pm the inspector checked the designated sleep room and two new children aged 11 months and 19 months were sleeping, but no record was maintained. The safe sleep policy was reviewed with the service manager and the practice was in variance with the safe sleep policy. The safe sleep policy advised to record observations of a sleeping child every 10 mins. This poses a risk of safety for the preschool children who are sleeping in the preschool service. Action submitted by the Registered Provider On the 6 06 2025 the person in charge advised of the following

- General Safety: - The service's Sleep/Rest Policy has been updated and shared with all staff. The staff signed that they understand and accept the Procedures set out in the policy. Continuous safe sleep training will be available to all staff – the next sleep training session will be available on 16 June 2025. - A whiteboard has been placed on the wall outside the designated sleep room. The purpose of this whiteboard is to support staff – to ensure that the 10-minute checks are carried out. Additionally, a new record book is maintained outside the designated sleep room. - The Manager will ensure that all children in the care of the service who are asleep are checked every 10 minutes by regular monitoring. - The service is continuing a recruitment campaign to recruit additional staff to ensure that extra staff is available for supervision and monitoring purposes
