Checks must be completed prior to a person having access to the children in order to assist in establishing they are appropriate to have access to children. (3) The registered provider did not ensure that adequate checks were conducted prior to two staff members starting. A review of documentation demonstrated that two staff members had reference validations dated after they had commenced in the service. Checks must be completed prior to a person having access to the children in order to assist establishing they are appropriate to have access to children. (4) Evidence was not available to show that one staff member who worked directly with the children held at least a major award in Early Childhood Care and Education at Level 5 on the National Qualifications Framework, or a qualification deemed by the Minister to be equivalent - (2) (a) Written references were sought and verified for the staff member. The registered provider along with management have create a checklist to ensure all members of staff have 2 valid and verified references on file prior to commencing in the service to prevent reoccurrence. (3) The manager is now aware that references need to be completed prior to any new staff member commencing in the service. (4) A letter of recognition from the DCEDIY has been requested for this staff member. The staff member will not be included in ratio until the letter is received. All new potential candidates will be required to apply for a DECDIY letter if they do not have a full award certificate ##### Regulation 23 — Safeguarding health, safety and welfare of child - General Safety: 1. A child’s lunch included fruit that was not quartered or halved before serving. This posed a potential choking hazard. It is acknowledged this was promptly addressed when brought to staffs’ attention by the inspector. Action submitted by the Registered Provider - General Safety: 1. Management have sent a message out to parents with images of how fruit needs to be cut. This image has also been shared with staff members and displayed in the service. The management and staff of the service will ensure snacks are checked on arrival to the service, if fruit need to be cut appropriate prior to giving to children ##### Regulation 25 — First aid - (2) The registered provider did not ensure that a suitably equipped first aid box was available. A review of first aid boxes in both care rooms and a conversation with the person in charge confirmed there was no burn dressings available. A suitably equipped first aid box including two burn dressings should be available at all times to support the care and safety of children attending the service - (2) The items missing from the first aid box have been purchased and added to the first aid box.
