General Safety: 1. The water temperature in both sanitary areas used by the children exceed 43℃ and posed a potential risk of injury to children. This non-compliance was observed on the previous inspection. The preventative action was not maintained in line with the information provided to the inspectorate following the last inspection. 2. The radiator in the children’s sanitary area closest to the garden had a surface temperature exceeding 43℃. This radiator is low level, uncovered and accessible to children. This posed a potential risk of injury. 3. Two large storage units present in the care room were not anchored to the wall and posed a potential risk of injury. Action submitted by the Registered Provider

Provider's corrective action:

General Safety: 1. A qualified plumber attended the service and adjusted the hot water temperatures and scald prevention devices on both sinks located in the children’s sanitary areas. The water temperatures are now within the recommended safe limits. Management will continue to monitor these areas daily to ensure compliance and the ongoing safety of all children attending the service. 2. The temperature on the radiator located in the children’s sanitary area closest to the garden has also been adjusted to ensure the surface temperature no longer exceeds safe limits. Management will continue to monitor these areas daily to ensure compliance and the ongoing safety of all children attending the service. 3. The two large storage units located in the care room have now been securely anchored to the wall to eliminate any potential risk of injury to children. Management will continue to monitor these areas daily to ensure compliance and the ongoing safety of all children attending the service

(1) The registered provider did not ensure a person trained in first aid responder (FAR) was available to the children at all times during the operating hours of the service. On the day of the inspection there was no staff member present who held a valid FAR certificate. It is acknowledged there was a person present with an expired certificate. (2) (a)(b) A suitably equipped first aid box was not available. A review of the first aid box showed there was no burn dressings available. A suitably equipped first aid box including two burn dressings should be available at all times to support the care and safety of children attending the service

Provider's corrective action:

(1) A First Aid Responder refresher course has now been booked. A note of all training will be monitored monthly. (2) (a)(b) Following the inspection burn dressings have now been purchased and added to the first aid box to ensure compliance with requirements. Burn dressings have been added to the First Aid checklist for monthly checks

(j) The form being used to record medication administration did not include the signature of the staff member administering the medication or the second staff member who witnessed the administration

Provider's corrective action:

(j) The service have amended the documentation to include both signatures of two staff members that administered medication in line with our policy for the administration of medicines

General Safety: 1. The water temperature in the children’s bathroom was recorded at 47.1℃. This posed a risk of injury to children. Infection Control: 2. Not all lunches were stored in the fridge. Seven lunch boxes were observed to be stored beside the refrigerator and contained perishable items such as yogurts and sandwiches. This is not in line with the food and nutrition guidelines for pre-school services. 3. Tissue was not hygienically dispensed and was observed on the back of the toilet cistern. This posed a risk if cross contamination. Administration of Medication: 4.There was no care plan available for a child with emergency medication. This posed a risk of incorrect medication administration. Action submitted by the Registered Provider

Provider's corrective action:

General Safety: 1. The water temperatures are monitored daily and there are water thermostats on the boiler and both the toilet taps used in the preschool. The water thermostats have been adjusted to 42℃. Infection Control: 2. No corrective action received but the reason why this occurred was outlined in a response received to the inspectorate. 3. Toilet paper was stored on the cistern and has since been placed with a toilet roll dispenser in the toilet. Administration of Medication: 4. A care plan has been drawn up for all children when being administered medication. A care plan was in place for the administration on our hard copy file

(1)There was no First Aid Response (FAR) trained person available. A review of the available FAR certificate demonstrated that it expired 14th October 2023. It is acknowledged that two staff were available with paediatric first aid

Provider's corrective action:

(1)The agency was not notified of a change in circumstance in relation to an increase in the maximum number of children who can attend the service at any one time. The service is currently registered for a maximum of 18 children however on the day of inspection 19 children where present. A review of attendance records from November 27th 2023 to December 5th 2023 demonstrated that up to 21 children have attended the service at any one time

Provider's corrective action:

This has been rectified, the total number of children attending the morning session daily is 18 children and the total number of children attending the afternoon session is 14 children daily reverting back to the original planning permission granted
