Dublin): what Tusla inspections found — 2 published inspection(s), non-compliances and the provider's corrective actions. ## Kidology Full Day · 1 - 6 Years · Dublin 15, Dublin · Tusla ID **TU2017FL505** · Registered since 27 September 2023 An inspection records what inspectors saw **on one day**; services respond with corrective actions — [how to read this](/methodology.md). #### Inspection of 8 July 2025 — Inspection Report Full report (PDF, Tusla) ##### Regulation 23 — Safeguarding health, safety and welfare of child - General Safety: 1. There was a nail protruding from a wooden structure in the outdoor play area. This posed a potential injury risk to children. 2. There was a bottle of unlabelled clear liquid beside the nappy change mat in the Toddler room. The contents or expiry date of the liquid could not be established, or the identity of who owned the container. This posed a potential risk of skin irritation if used incorrectly. 3. The water temperature of the first sink in the Playschool room sanitary area exceeded the recommended temperature of 43oC. A temperature of 45oC was recorded by the inspectors at 12.17pm. This had dropped to 43.6oC at 12.21pm. This posed a potential scald risk to children. Infection Control: The following increased the potential risk of infection: 4. Three nappy creams stored in a box in the nappy change room off the Toddler room were not individually labelled. This increased the potential risk of cross contamination. It is acknowledged that evidence was submitted to the inspectorate on the 9 July 2025 that these creams had been disposed of. 5. There was a buildup of dirt and debris on the following: o Under the nappy change mat in the Toddler room. o The nappy change unit in the Playschool room. 6. The following was damaged and worn, leaving an ineffective surface for cleaning: o The wooden frame for the nappy unit in the Toddler room. o The bottom of the door to the cubicle in the Montessori room sanitary area. 7. The following fabric surfaces were observed to be stained and visibly dirty: o Cushions in the Montessori room cosy area. o The large floor cushion in the Toddler room. 8. There was no foot pedal operated lidded bin in the sanitary area of the Montessori room. This increased the potential risk of contamination. Action submitted by the Registered Provider - General Safety: 1. The nail was removed from the wooden structure and a permanent PVC edging has been installed to prevent further ageing or damage. The service continues to complete daily and weekly risk assessments and report damage to maintenance. 2. The baby oil bottle was removed. This will be checked on an ongoing basis via the service risk assessment. 3. The water temperature has been adjusted. This will be checked on an ongoing basis via the service risk assessment. Infection Control: 4. The creams have been removed. This will be checked on an ongoing basis via the service risk assessment. 5. The nappy area was cleaned, and a new PVC sheeting / cover has been installed to enhance durability and facilitate easier cleaning in the toddler room. This will be checked on an ongoing basis via the service cleaning checklist. 6. New PVC sheeting / cover has been installed to the nappy change frame to enhance durability and facilitate easier cleaning. The doors were sealed and raised to prevent further damage. 7. New cosy corner has been placed in the toddler room and worn cushions will be discarded. The cushions in the Montessori have been thoroughly cleaned. This will be checked on an ongoing basis via the service cleaning checklist. 8. All bins in the sanitary areas have been replaced with foot pedal operated bins Found compliant: Regulation 9, 11, 16, 19, 25, 32. #### Inspection of 15 November 2023 — Inspection Report Full report (PDF, Tusla) ##### Regulation 9 — Management and recruitment - (2)(b) Three written references that were from a reputable source had not been verified by the registered provider - Corrective action: The reference of the staff member has been validated. Preventive action: The service will ensure all student references are validated going forward before placement ##### Regulation 23 — Safeguarding health, safety and welfare of child - General Safety: 1. A wooden truck structure which was damaged and had protruding nails and splintered wood was accessible to the children and posed a risk of injury. It is acknowledged that plastic tape was tied across the entrance to the structure to restrict access on the day of the inspection however this was still accessible to the children. It is also acknowledged photographic evidence was submitted to the inspectorate on the 16 November 2023 that the damaged areas of the structure were removed, eliminating the risk of injury to the children. Infection Control: 2. The following practices were observed during the course of 9 nappy changes observed that increased the potential risk of infection: o The box of disposable gloves used for nappy changing was placed and stored on the floor of the sanitary accommodation for the duration of the nappy changes. o The packets of baby wipes for use during each nappy change were placed on the floor of the sanitary accommodation. o There was repeated hand contact with the lid of the nappy disposal unit while disposing of the nappy at each nappy change. These practices increased the potential risk of cross contamination, and therefore the risk of infection. Action submitted by the Registered Provider - General Safety: 1. Corrective action: this was addressed on inspection. Infection Control: 2. Corrective action: The non-compliance was addressed with staff. Preventive action: Staff were reminded to familiarise themselves with the nappy changing policy which highlighted nappy, wipes, and gloves to be kept on the changing unit ##### Regulation 25 — First aid - (1) The registered provider did not ensure that a person trained to First Aid Responder level was available to the children attending at all times during the operational hours of the service should a medical emergency occur. For example, a review of the roster demonstrated the following: o On the Friday of the week prior to the inspection, of the three staff members trained to First Aid Responder level, one staff member was on leave, one staff member finished at 1.00pm and one staff member finished at 2.00pm leaving no person after this time trained to First Aid Responder level available to the children. o On the week of the inspection, of the three staff members trained to First Aid Responder level, one staff member was on leave, one staff member finished at 1.00pm and one staff member finished at 4.00pm leaving no person after this time trained to First Aid Responder level available to the children. This was identified as a non-compliance on the previous inspection dated the 9 November 2022 - Corrective action: eight further staff members are booked in for FAR training in Jan ’24.
