An electrical cable from a phone hanging on the wall in the Preschool Kenya Room was hanging in reach of the children posing a risk of harm to a child. Administration of Medication: 2. A sample of medication records were reviewed during the inspection. Four of the records reviewed were incomplete and at variance with the administration of medication policy in place in the service. This posed a risk of harm or overdose to the children receiving the medication, and may negatively affect the continuity of care given to a child as follows: - Three of the four records had no documented evidence that a second staff member was present to witness the administration of medication to a child. - One of the four records did not detail the dosage of medication that was administered to a child. - Two of the four records had no documented evidence that the parents had been informed that medication had been administered to their child. - Three of the four records did not detail the time medication was to be administered to the child. Action submitted by the Registered Provider The registered provider submitted the following response: - General Safety: 1. The cord cable connecting the handset to the phone base was clipped up to ensure no cord is hanging low. All phones are secured to the walls, and all phone cords have been checked. The cords will be secured as needed to ensure no children are within reach of them. Administration of Medication: 2. Following the inspection, the service reviewed the four medication forms and acknowledged the presence of some record-keeping gaps, these gaps have since been completed . Upon review of these, accurate medication was given and verified by a second member of staff despite the staff signature gap. However, training was provided to staff members. A sample copy of the medication form has been placed in all rooms to ensure all staff complete the form accurately leaving no gaps of information. A member of management administers all medication and will ensure the form is completed in full Found compliant: Regulation 9, 11, 19, 20, 25, 26. #### Inspection of 19 June 2024 — Inspection Report Full report (PDF, Tusla) ##### Regulation 19 — Health, welfare and development of child - 1. The registered provider did not ensure that appropriate and suitable care practices were in place at all times. In the Masai Mara room, at the designated nap time, a staff member was observed to place their hand on a child’s head and push the child’s head onto the sleep mat - 1. Children are supported and gently placed on sleep mats at sleep time. Staff sit with children who require soothing in preparation for sleep. No matter what age and stage of development children are at, we follow their lead for ques of tiredness and allow them to nap when they need it. Staff will role model positive behaviours and will support children with their social, emotional and behaviour skills, ensuring they are kept comfortable, relaxed, happy during sleep time, the staff member highlighted at inspection has been refreshed in safe sleep and will ensure that they are respectful of the children settling to sleep at all times and care practices are positive at all times. Appropriate and suitable care practices are in place and staff interactions during sleep will be monitored. Management will observe and support staff ensuring they engage and interact with the children in a calm and relaxed manner. We will ensure that appropriate and suitable care practices will be in place at all times ##### Regulation 20 — Facilities for rest and play - Appropriate rest facilities were not provided for all children under 2 years of age in the Wobbler Masai Mara and Toddler Serengeti rooms. Seven children aged 1 year were observed on floor beds during the designated nap time. These beds were not fitted with firm, flat, waterproof and breathable mattresses - Sleep is important for young children as it directly impacts on their wellbeing and development. We will always ensure that children are placed in a safe and well supervised environment. Additional cots have been purchased and have been put into practice for the seven children within the Serengeti and Masi-Mara rooms. Children under the age of 2 years will be provided with a cot. Children over 2 years will be provided with a floor bed. We will ensure that the floor beds are firm, flat, waterproof and breathable for children Found compliant: Regulation 9, 10, 11, 32. #### Inspection of 6 December 2023 — Inspection Report Full report (PDF, Tusla) No non-compliance recorded in this report.
