Action submitted by the Registered Provider - General Safety: Immediately post inspection we reapplied for the four staff member’s renewal of Garda vetting. We will forward same once we have received back. Going forward we will ensure to keep a data base of Garda vetting renewal dates to ensure all staff have Garda Vetting within the previous three years Found compliant: Regulation 9, 11, 15, 19, 24, 25, 26, 28. #### Inspection of 15 September 2023 — Inspection Report Full report (PDF, Tusla) ##### Regulation 9 — Management and recruitment - Not sourcing references, validating references, reviewing CV’s or ensuring each employee or unpaid worker has been adequately vetted does not provide assurances that those working in the service are suitable or competent for the role they have been assigned. 9(2)(a) 1 reference from a previous employer was not validated. (b) 2 references from a reputable source were not validated. 1 file did not have two references available or a CV available. (d) One staff member did not have police vetting available from a country outside of the Irish jurisdiction that they had resided in as an adult for a period of longer than 6 consecutive months as documented in their curriculum vitae - 9(1)(a)(b) outstanding references are now on file and all references have been validated. (d) Police vetting has been applied for staff member. A checklist will be on file to ensure all documents are on file as each new employee/student starts ##### Regulation 23 — Safeguarding health, safety and welfare of child - General Safety: 1. In the Birds Nest room, a small window close to floor level in the Birds Nest room opened fully presenting a risk of fall injury. It is acknowledged that another similar window in the room was suitably secured, and that staff took immediate action to address this once it was brought to their attention. 2. In the Birds Nest room, to the left of the sanitary accommodation area there was an electric socket box exposed at the bottom where plasterboard was missing. This posed a risk to the children. 3. During the inspection the kitchen was unlocked throughout the day. Children from the caterpillar and butterfly rooms used the corridor independently and unsupervised for short periods of time to use the sanitary facilities. The service had a notice on the door requesting that the door be locked at all times when not in use and a key was available for this purpose, however this was not reflected in practice on the day of inspection. An unlocked unsupervised kitchen poses a risk to young children due to the accessibility of the contents contained in the kitchen environment. Action submitted by the Registered Provider - General Safety: 1. The window is locked in the Birds Nest room and the key is stored in the office. Window checks have been added to the risk assessment for the room. 2. The area around the socket has been covered. Management will carry out a risk assessment after any works have been carried out in the service. 3. A new lock has been added to the kitchen door and staff have been informed to use it when kitchen is not in use.
